Teni In Social Media Storm Over Conduct at National Awards

Afrobeat artiste Teniola Apata, popularly known as “Teni Makanaki” has been caught in a huge social media storm after she appeared to have walked away from President Muhammadu Buhari without shaking hands or curtseying after receiving her Member of the Order of Niger (MON) award. Videos emerged showing Teni dressed in a trousers suit walking with a mannerism that suggested displeasure, then abruptly walking away after picking up the award. She has since gotten criticism and support from social media.

BREAKING: Umana Okon Umana and 6 Others Sworn in as Ministers in President Buhari’s Cabinet

President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in seven new ministers recently screened and confirmed by the Senate. The ministers were sworn in two batches of four and three each. The first batch sworn were Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh of Abia State, Umana Okon Umana of Akwa Ibom State, Odum Odih of Rivers State and Ademola Adewole Adegoroye of Ondo State. The second batch sworn in were Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub of Kano State, Goodluck Nnana Opiah of Imo State and Egwumakama Joseph Nkama of Ebonyi State. Before the swearing in, a minute silence was observed in honour of Mohammed Barkindo, the 4th Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC Secretary-General, who died at the age of 63, Tuesday night. Those physically present were the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; and Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari. Other Ministers who in attendance included the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, Education, Adamu Adamu, Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, Mines, Steel, Olamilekan Adegbite, Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi, Ministers of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, and Budget, National Planning, Clem Agba and State, Industry Trade and Investment, Maryam Katagun. The Head of the Service of the Federation (HOCSF), Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, and other ministers attended the ceremony remotely.

Secretary-General Of OPEC, Muhammad Barkindo Is Dead

Secretary-General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, Dr. Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo, is dead. He died about 11 pm on Tuesday night. His death was announced in the early hours of Wednesday by GMD, NNPC , Mele Kyari. Kyari tweeted, “We lost our esteemed Dr. Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died at about 11 pm yesterday 5th July 2022. Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC, and the global energy community. Burial arrangements will be announced shortly.” Barkindo was guest of President, Muhammadu Buhari who described him as a worthy ambassador of the country when he received him at the State House. Barkindo’s tenure as OPEC Secretary-General was due to end on July 31, 2022.

Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba First to Resign from Buhari’s Cabinet.

  Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has resigned his position in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari in line with the presidential directive for all political appointees interested in the 2023 elections to quit. Buhari had today at the federal Executive council meeting directed that all members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) running for elective offices to submit their resignation letters oon or before Monday the 16th of May, 2022. Although an Appeal Court earlier today had given judgement that appointees could keep their jobs while seeking to become their party standard bearers. The other ministers expected to resign immediately are; Ministers of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio; Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu and others who have all joined the presidential race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Others are the Minister of State Mines and Steel, Uche Ogar, who is running for the governorship position in Abia State, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, who declared her ambition to contest for the senatorial seat in Plateau State. Lai Mohammed, while addressing journalists, stressed that the resignation excludes the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo because who an elected member of the cabinet.
