Africa’s five representatives at the ongoing FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar have failed to record a win in their opening matches.
Senegal led the pack with a 2-0 loss to Netherlands in Group A, then came Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in group D who played out a goalless draw against Denmark. The Atlas Lions of Morroco shared the spoils with Croatia in Group F, as Africa’s hopes shifted to Cameroon and Ghana.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon however continued the goal drought as they lost 1-0 to Switzerland courtesy of a Camerounian striker playing for the Swiss national team; Bree Embolo.
The Black Stars of Ghana’s loss to Portugal 3-2, rounded off Africa’s Opening matches last night, as they fell to the superior fire power of the Selecao. Although 2 goals broke the hoodoo of No-Goals in a world cup that has an average of 2.3 goals per match, the continent would have to do more, if any of her teams intends to make a move forward in the Mundial.

The Women’s Under-17 team of Nigeria; the Flamingos have been drawn in Group B ahead of the U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup billed to be staged in India.
The Bankole Olowookere ladies who qualified for the tournament without loosing a single game now have herculean task of overcoming Germany, Chile and New Zealand when the competition kicks of from 6–28 October, 2022.
French international, Kylian Mbappe has agreed to sign a new three-year deal to stay at Paris Saint-Germain.
The Paris Saint Germain forward, whose current contract was due to expire on June 30, had been widely expected to leave the Ligue 1 side with a move to the La Liga champions and Champions League finalists Real Madrid imminent, before the player’s dramatic U-turn.
Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco for €180m in 2017, was ready to leave the club on a free transfer upon the expiry of his existing deal.
Although the contract is yet to be signed, reports have it that the extension is not un-connected to the Qatar World Cup later this year, where the owners of PSG have huge stakes.

A brilliant goal by former Liverpool forward Asisat Oshoala helped earn Nigeria a first win at the 2019 Women’s World Cup – and all but end South Korea’s hopes of reaching the last-16.
Nigeria went ahead when defender Kim Do-yeon volleyed past her own keeper.
Barcelona star Oshoala held off a defender before rounding the keeper to score the Falcons’ second goal.
Nigeria will confirm a place in the knockout stage if they beat hosts France, one of the tournament favourites, on Monday in Rennes.
However, they could also advance as one of the four best third-placed teams.
