Buhari Approves New NDDC Board

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has approved the composition of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission –NDDC.

A former deputy governor of Edo State, PIUS ODUBU was appointed Chairman while BERNARD O. OKUMAGBA was proposed as managing director.

A former lawmaker in Akwa Ibom state, Mr. OTOBONG NDEM also made the list of recommended for the post of Executive Director, Projects.

A former commissioner for tourism in Akwa Ibom sate, Mr VICTOR ANTAI was also nominated for post of commissioner in the NDDC board.

The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate.

These were contained in a statement by the Permanent Secretary (General Services Office) for Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OLUSEGUN ADEKUNLE.

He said the interim management headed by Professor NELSON BRAMBAIFA has been directed to hand-over to the most senior director in the commission.

AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT APPROVES INCENTIVE TO REVENUE GENERATING AGENCIES TO BOOST STATE IGR

As part of efforts to scale up the internally-generated revenue in Akwa Ibom state, the state government has approved a 2.5 per cent incentive to all revenue generating agencies of the state government.

The incentive was announced by the commissioner for Finance, Mr LINUS NKAN during a meeting with revenue-generating Ministries, Departments and Agencies at the Revenue House in Uyo.

The finance commissioner said the meeting was a crucial one; targeted at boosting the morale of the agencies and re-inculcate in them the need for revenue generating, reporting and accounting.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the Finance Commissioner expressed hope that the monthly incentive, which he described as Cost of Revenue, will boost their drive to make more money for the state.

On his part, chairman of the Akwa Ibom state Internally Generated Revenue Service –AKIRS, Mr OKON OKON revealed that the agency has improved its revenue generation from N24 billion naira in 2018, to N20.2 billion naira between January and June 2019.

He credited this feat to the agency’s increased tempo of enforcement of tax laws in the state, as well as the compliance of citizens to prompt payment of taxes.

Our correspondent, OKODI OKODI reports that the AKIRS boss and the finance commissioner, further charged citizens and business owners in the state to remain committed with tax remittances to enable the state government provide basic amenities for citizens.

Wife Of Kaduna State Governor Advocates For Inclusion Of More Women In Politics

Wife of the Kaduna State Governor, HADIZA ISMA EL-RUFAI, has attributed the prevalence of some societal ills to the insufficient exposure of the girl child to education.

In a chat with journalist at the side-lines of the 2019 Nigerian Psychological Association conference in Uyo, Mrs. EL-RUFAI stressed that every girl child trained, is an asset to the nation; describing women as the bed rock of the society.

Speaking further, she pointed out the deficit in women representation at the federal level and extolled the strides of the Kaduna State Government in this regard; as the state can boast of more women who are involved in the process of governance.

She called on the Federal Government and other state governments to take a cue from the Kaduna State government and give more women a chance, trusting that with the motherly disposition of women, everybody will be carried along.

AKSG Suspends NAAKISS Elections

The Government has called for the suspension of the proposed election of the National Association of Akwa Ibom state Students (NAAKISS) till further notice.

This notice is contained in a statement signed by the Information Officer, Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education, UDUAKABASI EYO on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Professor NSE ESSIEN.

According to the statement, the ministry of Education was informed that the NAAKISS election will hold between 2nd and 13th September, 2019.

However, the Ministry of Education has not authorised the said election, hence the reason for the indefinite suspension.

The Ministry of Education has therefore informed all those involved in the exercise to look out for a new date, which will be announced in due course.
