August 27, 2019 AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT APPROVES INCENTIVE TO REVENUE GENERATING AGENCIES TO BOOST STATE IGR

As part of efforts to scale up the internally-generated revenue in Akwa Ibom state, the state government has approved a 2.5 per cent incentive to all revenue generating agencies of the state government.

The incentive was announced by the commissioner for Finance, Mr LINUS NKAN during a meeting with revenue-generating Ministries, Departments and Agencies at the Revenue House in Uyo.

The finance commissioner said the meeting was a crucial one; targeted at boosting the morale of the agencies and re-inculcate in them the need for revenue generating, reporting and accounting.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the Finance Commissioner expressed hope that the monthly incentive, which he described as Cost of Revenue, will boost their drive to make more money for the state.

On his part, chairman of the Akwa Ibom state Internally Generated Revenue Service –AKIRS, Mr OKON OKON revealed that the agency has improved its revenue generation from N24 billion naira in 2018, to N20.2 billion naira between January and June 2019.

He credited this feat to the agency’s increased tempo of enforcement of tax laws in the state, as well as the compliance of citizens to prompt payment of taxes.

Our correspondent, OKODI OKODI reports that the AKIRS boss and the finance commissioner, further charged citizens and business owners in the state to remain committed with tax remittances to enable the state government provide basic amenities for citizens.
