Wike’s Camp Hold Meeting in London as Atiku Seeks Resolution to PDP Crisis

The five  Peoples Democratic Party governors led by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike will today; Thursday, meet in London, United Kingdom. Governor Nyesom Wike, Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Samuel Ortom (Benue) recently withdrew their membership of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, insisting on the removal of the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu. Govenor Wike says He is not happy with the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar after the latter settled for the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate despite reportedly having an agreement to run with the Rivers State’s governor on a joint ticket after Wike lost to him in the primary election. The Governors who were conspicuously absent from the Atiku campaign flag off in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital,  are meeting in London today to take far reaching decisions ahead of the 2023 polls. It was learnt that Monday’s decision by the party and Atiku to flag off the campaign without Wike and his allies may have informed the latest meeting. So far, efforts to reconcile Atiku and Wike’s allies have not been successful. The Board of Trustees of the party led by the acting Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, set up a reconciliation committee to intervene in the lingering crisis but have been unable to broker peace as expected. Wike has vowed to remain in the party, promising however not to have anything to do with the presidential campaigns unless Ayu leaves.

Uyo Local Government Council Commences Enforcement of Ban on Roadside Trading

Uyo Local Government Council has commenced the enforcement of the ban on roadside and walkways trading in the city centre.
It would be recalled that the Council had announced the ban in a release issued by the Secretary of Council, Mr. Ubong Udofia on behalf of the Chairman, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo having noted with utmost displeasure the gradual encroachment of street trading into the city centre of Uyo, which was seen as a serious embarrassment on the city centre status.
Leading the enforcement team on Monday, September 19, 2022, for the exercise was the Chairman, Uyo Local Government Council, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, who noted that the move became necessary due to the growing traffic snarl in the Uyo metropolis.
Dr. Udo observed that major roads and streets in Uyo have so far been overtaken by traders and commuters who have ignored safety concerns by exposing their lives and that of other road users to danger on daily basis.
He, therefore, urged all those involved in street trading, especially along Ikot Ekpene Road, Abak Road, Aka Road, Oron Road, and the neighbouring streets to permanently vacate the aforementioned routes and make use of the Ibom Plaza market to ensure free flow of traffic in and around the city center.
The Uyo helmsman pointed out that the enforcement team set up by the Council has been saddled with the responsibility to enforce the ban imposed on street trading and prosecute violators.
