NFF Invites 23 Falcons for Olympics Qualifier Against Ethiopia

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has extended invitations to goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Osinachi Ohale and forward Asisat Oshoala headline and 19 other players invited to the Super Falcons’ camp for this month’s Paris 2024 Women Olympic Football Tournament qualification fixture against the Senior Women National Team of Ethiopia. According to the NFF press release, Ethiopia will host the first leg of the second-round fixture in Addis Ababa on Wednesday, 25th October with the second leg in Nigeria on Tuesday, 31st October. Ethiopia eliminated Chad in the first round of the series as nine-time African champions Nigeria drew a bye. The Super Falcons, who finished 8th at the 32-team FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand in the summer, also drew a bye to the third round of the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations qualification series, after Sao Tome and Principe’s senior girls scratched the tie. The Falcons will be up against their counterparts from Cape Verde in the third round of that series at the end of November. Paris, France will host next year’s Women Olympic Football Tournament. The Super Falcons played at the Olympics in 2000, 2004 and 2008. Super Eagles to Trade Tackles with Green Falcons in October

The Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Green Falcons of  Saudi Arabia will lock horns in a senior international friendly match in the city of Portimão, Portugal on Friday, 13th October 2023. The clash comes barely a month before the three-time African champions, wallopped Sao Tome and Principe 6-0 in their 2023 AFCON final-day qualification game in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state Capital. This is as they set out on the race for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals with a home game against the Crocodiles of Lesotho. Within the same FIFA window in November, the Eagles will play their second match of the qualification series, away to the Warriors of Zimbabwe.
Nigeria and Saudi Arabia have never played at senior level, but the most remarkable clash between both countries remains the opening match of FIFA U20 World Cup (then known as FIFA World Youth Championship) in 1989, in which second half goals Chrstopher Ohenhen and Mutiu Adepoju steered Nigeria to a comeback 2-1 victory over the host nation in Riyadh.
The Estadio Municipal de Portimão, in the Algarve, is the home ground of Portimonense S.C.

Akwa Ibom State Government Commissions Another World Class Stadium in Uyo

The Renovated Uyo Township Stadium in Akwa Ibom State is set to be inaugurated today (Wednesday) May 24, 2023, as the Administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel winds down. This adds to the number of world class sports facilities owned by the , Akwa Ibom State government. Asides  the prestigious Godswill Akpabio international stadium dubbed the Nest of Champions, inaugurated in 2013 and the remodeled Eket Stadium that was opened for use in 2022. Located in the heart of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, the Uyo Township Stadium has an Olympic size swimming pool, Indoor sports halls plus Astro turf playing surface for football matches. A ground that once shouldered all sporting activities in Akwa Ibom State, the Udom Emmanuel led administration through the Sir Monday Uko manned Ministry of Youths and Sports undertook remodeling work to give the uplift the face of the facility in line with internationally acceptable standards.

Antonio Conte Leaves Tottenham Hotspur by Mutual Consent

Antonio Conte has left English Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur by mutual consent after 1year and 4 months in charge. Antonio Conte called the Spurs players “selfish” and criticised the club’s culture at a press conference after their recent draw at strugglers, Southampton. Tottenham are currenly fourth in the EPL but are out of all cup competitions. His assistant Cristian Stellini will step up as head coach for the rest of the season, with former midfielder Ryan Mason his deputy. Conte, has won league titles with clubs Chelsea in England,Juventus and Inter Milan in the Italian Serie A. He was appointed Manager in November 2021 after Spurs sacked Nuno Espirito Santo. His departure means Tottenham are searching for their fourth permanent manager in four years since Mauricio Pochettino left in 2019.
