Police in Akwa Ibom Arrest 4 Suspected Cultists/Kidnappers, Recover Arms and Ammunitions

Sequel to the complaints received by the Command on an inter-confraternity clash between different cult groups ongoing in Eket and its environs, The Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara gave a matching order to the DPO Eket Division,SP Felix Ekpoudom for the perpetrators to be fished out and prosecuted. In compliance with these directives;

On 9/04/2024 at about 4:45 pm, based on credible information at disposal, Operatives of Eket Division arrested one Godwin Adam Aka Nasarawa ‘m’ 35yrs of Idong Useme Village, one Isaac Samuel Bassey ‘m’ 25yrs of Assang Usong Inyong, one Emmanuel Hanson Isong ‘m’ 29yrs of Idung Uso Village, all of Eket L.G.A. Suspects confessed to being members of Black Axe Confraternity and also suspected to be involved in the gruesome murder of one Kufre Usoro aka Promzy ‘m’ 32yrs said to be a member of Klanz Cult group who was murdered on Thursday 4th of April, 2024.

Furthermore, in pursuit of others at large, on 25/4/2024, at about 2:00 pm, the Divisional Police Officer of Eket Division, acting on intelligence gathered swiftly mobilized police operatives from the Division to Eket-Etinan Road and arrested one Victor Usoro Eyire aka Tender ‘m’ 35yrs of Iseyiridua Village, Eket L.G.A., along Eket/Etinan Road. The Suspect has been on the Command wanted list for being a ringleader terrorizing Eket/Etinan/Ekparakwa Axis. Further effort led to the recovery of One English Pump Action Rifle, one Short Machine Gun (SMG), one locally made revolver pistol, eleven rounds of 9mm Ammunitions, and four rounds live cartridges from their Group Operational Base at Ikot Oku Ikono Village, Uyo L.G.A. Suspect confessed to being a member of Black Axe Cult Group. Effort is intensified to arrest other fleeing gangs and possible recovery of their weapons.

The Command remains resolute in its determination to rid the state of criminal elements.

Akwa Ibom State Assures Citizens of Effective Security Along The State’s Coastlines

The Akwa Ibom State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring effective security along the State’s vast coastline.   This was disclosed by Governor UMO ENO, at the 35th Passing Out Parade of the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School in Onne, Rivers State.   Represented by the Deputy Governor, Senator AKON EYAKENYI, Governor ENO said that the recently donated fourteen patrol gun boats to security agencies in the State underscores his administration’s readiness to partnering with the various security agencies, including the Navy, to combat crimes in the waterways.   Addressing the trainees, Governor Eno urged them to uphold the tenets of their training and represent the Navy well. He encouraged them to utilise their skills and experiences to contribute to the fight against crimes affecting the country’s coastal regions.   On his part, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. BELLO MUHAMMED MATAWALE, emphasized President TINUBU’s expectation of loyalty and patriotism from the trainees, urging them to develop their competency beyond the camp trainings.   While highlighting the importance of the training in enhancing the fight against oil bunkering, pipeline vandalism, human trafficking, and other maritime crimes within Nigeria’s territorial waters and the Gulf of Guinea, the Minister further admonished the trainees to adhere to the principles of the Nigerian Navy.

Akwa Ibom House of Assembly Passes Amended AKISIEC Into Law

Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) has passed amended version of the Independent Electoral Commission Law Cap 69.   The Bill for a Law to amend the Independent Electoral Commission had passed through second reading on Friday, 12th April 2024 and was subjected to a Public Hearing on the 16th of April 2024.   The Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt. Hon. MFON IDUNG, informed the House that the Public Hearing made very meaningful inputs which assisted his Committee to arrive at the recommendations.   Rt. Hon. IDUNG, who represents Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency stated that amendments of the Independent Electoral Commission Law will update the electoral laws in the State in line with modern and acceptable electoral reforms and guidelines.   The House thereafter considered the amended Clauses 2,4,5,6,7 and 9 at the Committee of the Whole where the amendments were adopted.   The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Elder) UDEME OTONG, who presided over the plenarydirected the Clerk, MrsNSIKAKABASI OROK to forward the bill to Akwa Ibom State’s Governor UMO ENO for assent into law.

Ini Communities Seek Government Intervention Help Over Recurrent Boundary Dispute

The age long community boundary dispute between Ubet Okom group of villages and Mbente village in Nkari Clan of Ini local government area has gotten messier.   Community members have reported that people have lost their lives and property worth millions of naira damaged as another round of clashes took place last week.   Lending their voice to the reoccurrence of violence, Ini people under an umbrella body, Peace and Unity Advocacy Foundation has sent a Save Our Soul (SOS) message to the Akwa Ibom State Government through the office of the Deputy Governor, Senator AKON EYAKENYI.   In the message, they are asking for a lasting solution to end the ongoing perennial crisis by complete seizure of those boundary lands in dispute for government farming or building of Industries to avert further loss of innocent lives and properties.   In a release jointly signed by the Chancellor of the Foundation, Mkpisong Prince NDAEYO NYAUDO INUAEYEN JP, the Director General, Pst. MICHAEL SAMPSON, Jr. Director of Information Strategy, ENGR IDARA AKPANOWO, Director of Community Affairs, Comrade THEOPHILUS UKPABIO and the Patron, Pastor HENRY AKPABIO, the PEACE AND UNITY AMBASSADORS described the dastardly act of Murder of  Mbente Sons as “Unacceptable and Highly Condemnable”.
