January 20, 2025 Governor Umo Eno Assures Civil Servants Will Enjoy N80,000 Minimum Wage from January

Following the conclusion of the Akwa Ibom Workers verification and authentic exercise, the State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO has announced that the payment of 80,000 Naira Minimum wage will commence in this January.

The Governor made the announcement yesterday at his hometown, Ikot Ekpene Udo, in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, during the 2025 thanksgiving service of the Nigerian Union of Journalists – NUJ Akwa Ibom Council.

You would recall that Governor ENO in November last year, promised to pay 80, 000 naira, an amount higher than the 70, 000-naira minimum wage announced by the Federal Government. However, stressing the need to eliminate ghost workers from the system, the governor said the new wage will be paid when the workers audit is concluded.

Delivering his address at the thanksgiving service, Governor UMO ENO noted that report of the verification exercise will be presented today, and that civil servants in the state will receive the new minimum wage from November 2024 till date.
