“Perish The Thought” PDP Tackles Akpabio Over 2027 Takeover Claims

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has tackled the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, asking him to “perish the thought” of taking over control of Akwa Ibom State in 2027.

This is in response to a statement credited to Senator Akpabio while receiving the Governoship Candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP; Senator Bassey Albert, who recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC .

The PDP stated that the ploy to use false claims and inciting comments to destabilise the state has failed.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party advised the Senate President to come to terms with the fact that the people of Akwa Ibom are firmly rooted in the PDP as a peaceful and united people blessed by God, especially under the immediate past and current administration.

The statement said: “They cannot be swayed by any agent of disunity, incitement, hatred and retrogression whose intention is to use propaganda and hate speeches to derail, as well as appropriate the state for selfish interest.

“The boast by Akpabio to take over Akwa Ibom in 2027 is pathetically empty.

“Our party advises Akpabio to leave Akwa Ibom alone and focus on the challenges of his office as Senate President.”

The PDP urged the people of Akwa Ibom to disregard Akpabio’s antics and remain united in their determination to build their state under the banner of the PDP.

Women and Youth Protest for the Removal of Obingwa LGA Chairman in Abia

Women and youths in their numbers yesterday stormed Mgboko, the headquarters of Obingwa council area of Abia State,in a protest march demanding the removal of the council chairman, Chief Michael Ibe Nwoke over alleged non performance.

The protesters carrying placards urged the councilors of the council to employ all lawful means to remove Nwoke from office.

Leader of the protesting Women, Hon. Ijeoma Ngozi, said that the chairman has serially abused the mandate given to him to pilot the affairs of the council. She said: “It’s barely five months to the end of his tenure, but he has not done any meaningful thing for our people. We don’t have an office here as women , everywhere has been converted to tricycle confiscation centers.

“Thugs are everywhere seizing tricycles, collecting N40,000 each from them. All we see everyday are thugs harassing residents and business people with no meaningful development. We’re tired of watching our children being used for violence.”

On his part, leader of the youths, Mr. Christian Nwachukwu, said the youths have passed a vote of no confidence on Nwoke and want him removed from office.

He said: “Chief Michael Ibe Nwoke has been insulting everybody and we’re tired of him. When he was ALGON Chairman, he was quarrelling with his colleagues. We’ve discovered that almost all the buildings in the LGA secretariat are dilapidated and nothing is working at all. Look at how grasses have taken over everywhere.

“He has been harassing our brothers who are tricycle riders. He has no respect for the elders of Obingwa including the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. We call on all our leaders from the Governor to the House of Assembly to plead with the councillors to quickly remove him from office through impeachment. Enough is enough.”

In a swift response to the protest, Chief Michael Nwoke, accused digruntled elements who were against his defection to the Young Progressive Party,YPP, to contest for the Obingwa/ Osisioma/ Ugwunagbo federal constituency seat in the 2023 election. He fingered former deputy governor of the state,Chief Acho Nwakanma as the spearhead of the protests

He however mentioned that a law suit had been filed restraining the councilors from removing him from office.
