Federal Government Moves to Curb “Japa” Syndrome With Health Workforce Policy

The Federal Government of  Nigeria government has introduced a policy targeted at addressing the workforce challenges facing the health sector.

The new initiative, which is tagged: National Policy on Health Workforce Migration,” is aimed at tackling the critical challenges facing the country’s health human resources, aiming to manage, harness, and reverse the migration of healthcare professionals.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, MUHAMMAD PATE, disclosed this on his X handle, noting that the policy aims to stem the exodus of healthcare professionals.

The minister said the development would create an environment that encourages professional development and stability, adding that the policy seeks to retain the best talent within Nigeria.

Council Of State, Governors’ Forum Pass Vote of Confidence on President Bola Tinubu

President BOLA TINUBU has received a vote of confidence from members of the Council of State, comprising former Presidents and past Heads of State, as well as former Chief Justices of the Federation.

Yesterday’s Council of State meeting is the first presided by president TINUBU since he assumed office.

The Council members condemned the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, which DELE ALAKE, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, described as having a sinister motive with the sponsors allegedly targeting a change in government.

Former Presidents GOODLUCK JONATHAN and MUHAMMADU BUHARI were present at the meeting, while YAKUBU GOWON and ABDULSALAMI ABUBAKAR joined virtually.

However, ex-President OLUSEGUN OBASANJO neither attended physically nor joined online.

Umohette Clinches 13th Career Win With 3rd Round Knock-Out

The continuing and remarkable come-back story of Onna- Akwa Ibom State born and USA based professional heavyweight boxer Mr. Enobong Umohette recorded a new chapter over the weekend in the city of Monroe in the American state of Michigan.
On Saturday 1Oth August 2024 at The Providence Community Center Monroe, Michigan, Umohette faced off against Juan “Tactical Dynamite” Silva in a scheduled 10 round contest.
After a fierce battle of wits and exchanges between The Nigerian Gentleman and Tactical dynamite, an Umohette left hook in the third round floored Silva who could not beat the count and was knocked out in the third round.
Reacting to the win, Umohette thanked God for the ability to perform at a high competitive level despite an almost 8 year retirement and thanked Akwa Ibomites at home and abroad for the support he has received to continue his journey of inspiration, in this last phase of his boxing career.
Umohette thanked his promoter Erik Flemming who monitored the fight remotely and thanked his management team which consisted of Rhonda Yates, Veteran heavyweight boxing champion Jeremiah “The Beast’ Williams, Trainer Richard Mason and coach George Offiong.
The Nigerian Gentleman thanked His Excellency the Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umoh Eno for not only exemplary leadership but for identifying with Akwa Ibomites all over the world.
The former State of Wisconsin and UBF International Heavyweight boxing champion noted that despite running an extremely busy schedule, His Excellency Governor Umo Eno still made out time to attend the recently concluded AKISAN National convention which held over the same weekend in Tennessee USA; where he interacted freely with Akwa Ibomites in the diaspora.
Since his return from an almost 8-year retirement in late 2022, Umohette has remained undefeated in four fights.
With Umohette’s thirteenth career win, The Nigerian Gentleman stated that he is now set to vie for an IBA (International Boxing Association) heavyweight title in the coming months and thanked all Akwa Ibomites and members of the press for continuing to support the sport of boxing.

Nigeria’s Paralympics Team Leaves for Training Tour of Germany, Ahead of the 2024 Games

President of Paralympics Committee Nigeria(PCN), Mr SUNDAY ODEBODE has charged the para athletes to be good ambassadors of the country as the athletes departed the country Monday on a training tour of Germany.

 The athletes, their training partners and coaches traveled in batches aboard Ethiopia Airline, Qatar and Royal Air Maroc.

 Team Nigeria athletes will participate in para athletics, para-badminton, para-table tennis and para-powerlifting.

 Speaking at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, shortly before the athletes boarded, ODEBODE advised the athletes to stay away any form of vices that can tarnish the image of the country but should always represent the country well at any given time.
