Akwa Ibom State Government Restates Commitment to Agricultural Productivity

The Akwa Ibom State government has restated its commitment to boost agricultural productivity through cultivation of improved variety of crops such as cassava, rice, coconut, among others.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. (Mrs.) OFFIONG OFFOR, who stated this in an interaction with newsmen, said the distribution of improved cassava and coconut seedlings is ongoing so that where challenges are encountered with the crops, they could be replaced.

According to her, till date, the distribution of improved seedlings – cassava, coconut, maize, vegetables to secondary schools has not ended, and the feedback is quite encouraging as those who had challenges were immediately given seedlings for replacement.

Dr. OFFOR noted that after her ministry gave out seedlings to the chairmen of Local Government Areas and other stakeholders to cultivate, they continue to monitor their progress with a view of making amends in the eventuality of any losses.

She, however, noted that the possibility of any crop, including cassava and coconut, to encounter challenges should not be ruled out, stressing that the seedlings are doing well, while those that had challenges were given seedlings for replacement.

Governor Of Akwa Ibom State to Empower 5,000 Youths on September 10

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO, has disclosed plans for a youth engagement and empowerment rally on Tuesday, 10thSeptember, 2024 at the Uyo Township Stadium, to appreciate the youths of the State.

He noted that the event will be used to flag -off a special support programme for 5000 youths in the State.

Governor ENO made the announcements while speaking at the September edition of the State Government Monthly Covenant Prayer Service at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.

According to the governor, modalities for implementation of the programme will be outlined during the rally and names of beneficiaries from each LGA will be published for verification.

The Governor also announced the readiness of the State Government to commence distribution of food items directly to the less-privileged devoid of agents as middlemen.

He decried the inability of some agents to stick to the terms of engagement in the bulk purchase programme, adding that this new phase of distribution will be done directly through the Bulk Purchase Agency.

Bruno Labbadia Dumps Nigeria Deal

German tactician BRUNO LABBADIA has made a U-turn on his decision to coach the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Recall that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, announced on Tuesday that the German will take charge of the Super Eagles.

According to reports emanating from Germany, the 58-year-old has now rejected the chance to manage the three-time African champions.

NFF reportedly failed to reach a contractual agreement over remittance of taxes with the former Germany international striker before making the announcement. Further discourse however did see the German demand that his taxes; an additional 32%-40% of his Salary be paid by the Nigerian football Governing body.

LABBADIA was initially expected to take charge of the Super Eagles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The technical director of the NFF, AUSTIN EGUAVOEN, will now take charge of the team for both games making his 4th return to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

NNPCL Throws Open Bids to Investors to Operate and Manage Kaduna and Warri Refineries

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has said that it was seeking Operations and Maintenance (O&M) companies to bid for the Warri and Kaduna refineries.

In a public notice on its official X handle, the national oil company which outlined the qualifications of companies interested in bidding for the contracts stated that the move will help ensure reliability and energy security for the country.

As part of the requirements for qualification, the NNPC stated that applicants must present audited accounts for the past four years that is 2020 to 2023 including balance sheet as well as income and cash flow statements.

Bidders are also expected to provide evidence of their company’s latest credit ratings and the name of the rating agency and demonstration of a minimum average annual turnover of at least 2 billion dollars for the financial years ending 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 respectively.

According to the NNPC, documents by interested persons should be submitted online through the electronic NIPEX tender portal latest 12 pm on October 10.
