FCCPC Insists “No Going Back” on Plans to Curb Exploitative Price Hikes in Nigeria

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to curbing exploitative pricing practices across Nigeria.

The FCCPC made this known while addressing growing concerns within the Organised Private Sector and among various stakeholders in the country.

In a Tuesday statement by its Director of Special Duties (Strategic Communication), ONDAJE IJAGWU, the commission urged businesses to cease price gouging and price fixing practices, which have become increasingly prevalent in Nigeria’s challenging economic climate.

The FCCPC emphasised that its mandate is to protect consumers from unfair and deceptive practices while ensuring healthy competition across all sectors.

President BOLA TINUBU has said that his administration remained committed to sustainable growth through the effective implementation of ongoing economic reforms.

The President made the remark at a meeting with Chinese President, XI JINPING, in Beijing, China.

In his remarks, JINPING celebrated the strong mutual understanding between Nigeria and China since the establishment of diplomatic ties over the past 50 years.

He pledged that China and Nigeria would continue to work closely within the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation – FOCAC framework as a model of cooperation between nations.

The FOCAC Summit is scheduled to begin today and will end on Friday, September 6, 2024.

Victor Osimhen Moves to Galatasaray on Loan

VICTOR OSIMHEN has agreed to join Turkish side, Galatasaray in what would bring to an end the uncertainty surrounding the future of his footballing career.

OSIMHEN who has had a frosty relationship with Napoli since a social media incident from last season was on the verge of joining Saudi side, Al Ahli and then Chelsea, but both deals collapsed. PSG had also earlier indicated interest in the Super Eagles forward.

According to reports, OSIMHEN has now agreed to join Galatasaray but is also seeking a review of some of the terms of his contract with Napoli. It is also reported that Galatasaray has already arranged for a jet to convey VICTOR OSIMHEN.

Galatasaray is expected to cover about 10Million Euros as salary of VICTOR OSIMHEN until the end of the season. The Loan deal agreed with Napoli does not include any buy option.

United Kingdom to Withhold Military Equipment from Isreal

The United Kingdom has suspended some export licences for military equipment to Israel, as the war continues to rage between Isreal and Hamas in Palestine.

UK Foreign Secretary, DAVID LAMMY said there is a clear risk that items exported to Israel might be used in “serious violations of international humanitarian law.

Israel’s Defence Minister, YOAV GALLANT says he is “deeply disheartened” by the decision, while Israeli Foreign Minister, ISRAEL KATZ says the development sends a “problematic” message to Hamas.

It comes as protests continue in Israel, including one outside Prime Minister, BENJAMIN NETANYAHU’s residence, aimed at forcing the government to secure a hostage release deal with Hamas.
