Federal Government Set to Investigate Causes of Earth Tremors in Abuja

The Federal Government has initiated a thorough investigation into the root causes of the recent earth tremors that rattled the Mpape area in Abuja.

The tremors, which began on the night of September 16, 2024, alarmed residents, with reports of six to eight seismic events being recorded. First detected at about 11:00 p.m., the tremors led to widespread concern due to loud noises and ground shaking in the vicinity.

During a ministerial press briefing yesterday, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mr. UCHE NNAJI, assured the public that a team of expertsfromthe National Space Research and Development Agency, NASRDA, have the situation under control.

The government’s concern stems from the potential for catastrophic flooding in low-lying areas of southern Nigeria, especially as the rainy season progresses.

Air Force Airlifts Election Materials to Edo

Ahead of the gubernatorial elections slated for Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has airlifted election materials for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to Benin.

Similarly, the Chief of Defence Staff, General CHRISTOPHER MUSA on Wednesday noted that President BOLA AHMED TINUBU has no favourite candidate in the Governorship election in Edo State.

The Chief of Defencestated this at a meeting with the stakeholders, including INEC, Police and other security agencies in Benin City.

MUSA said the President’s favourite will be the person the electorate in the state elected as their governor, emphasizing that the military will not take sides in the election.

Governor Obaseki who was on hand to receive the Chief of defense Staff said all the edo people desire is a free and fair poll, which is devoid of violence.

The tension in Edo state ahead of the gubernatorial poll has been heightened over fears of possible violence during the elections, a situation which led to the incumbent Governor turning down a peace accord in the state.

Akwa Ibom Reels Out Plans for 37th Anniversary

The  Akwa Ibom state government has released an itinerary for the celebration of the state’s 37th Anniversary.

In a release signed by the Secretary to the state Government, PRINCE ENOBONG UWAH and made available to the press, it was highlighted that events to mark the anniversary will commence on Friday, September 20, with the launch of a Health care initiative, followed by a media chat with the Governor Pastor UMO ENO on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

The activities will be preceded by a Thanksgiving service next week, on Sunday, September 22, and incorporates the flag off of the 2nd Farming season on Wednesday, September 25, the commissioning of rural road projects across local government areas, through the month of October, and the commissioning of a primary health centre in Nsit Ibom, as the culminating event.

Also a statement signed by the commissioner of Information, Comrade INI  EMEMOBONGnotes that Governor UMO ENO has declared September 23, 202,  as a Public Holiday,  to mark the state’s creation anniversary.

The statement indicated that residents of the state are expected to observe the holiday, to celebrate with the state.

Former Governor of Kogi; Yahaya Bello Honors EFCC Invitation

Former Governor of Kogi State YAHAYA BELLO has honoured the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after months of back-and-forth and an attempt by the agency to arrest him.

A statement by the Director, Yahaya Bello Media Office, OHIARE MICHAEL on Wednesday, said Bello has honoured the invitation of the EFCC after due consultations with his family, legal team and political allies.

The move comes after Justice EMEKA NWITE of the Federal High Court Abuja adjourned proceedings on the alleged money laundering case instituted by the EFCC against Bello to 25thSeptember.

It would be recalled that BELLO was sued by the EFCC on a 19-count charge of alleged money laundering to the tune of 80 Naira Billion.
