Anikulapo Season to Set for Netflix

Nigerian Filmmaker and Actor; Kunle Afolayan has announced the renewal of the second season of his popular series “Anikulapo” on Netflix.

Afolayan broke the news on his Instagram account on Monday, October 7, revealing that production for the new season took place in Oyo State and Ghana.

The upcoming season promises to explore more captivating narratives grounded in Nigerian history and culture.

Afolayan expressed his excitement, stating, “We’re overjoyed that Netflix has renewed Anikulapo for another season. We take pride in telling our stories authentically, and this series is a powerful reflection of Nigerian culture and history. This season will explore the complex realities of the slave trade, with actors from Portugal, Ghana, and Nigeria, showing the global connections in our history.

“Filming in Oyo State and Ghana helped us ground the story in places rich with our heritage. We’re excited to continue sharing this journey with the world and celebrating the depth of our culture.”

The second season will feature returning actors, including Sola Shobowale, Gabriel Afolayan, Owobo Ogunde, and Bimbo Ademoye, alongside new cast members such as Saga, Kie Kie, Abija, Antar Laniyan, and Saheed Balogun.

“Anikulapo” initially premiered in 2022, followed by “Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre,” which was released on March 1, 2024, as a Netflix original seasonal film.

A release date for the second season is yet to be announced.

Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwan Akiolu, has urged the police to fish out killers of the late Prince Ademola Akinloye, first son of Ojomu of Ajiran, murdered on August 26, in Lekki.

Akiolu spoke when he hosted the newAIG of Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, in his palace. Zone 3 comprises Lagos and Ogun.

The Royal father admonished Fayoade to synergise with the police commissioners in Lagos and Ogun states to end the activities of land grabbers and speculators. He worried that the menace was becoming a worrisome to the peaceful and hard working people of Lagos and environs.

The monarch asked Fayoade to charge his officers to avoid aiding and abetting land grabbers and speculators to commit crimes. Oba Akiolu described challenges confronting the country as temporary, and hoped the country will overcome its socio-economic problems and come out better and stronger.

AIG Fayoade, former commissioner of Police in Lagos, thanked Oba Akiolu for his professional and fatherly advice.

He pledged to work with the commissioners under Zone 2 to ensure security of life and property, and to tap from the monarch’s experience in policing, to succeed in his assignment.

BREAKING: Inspector General Of Police Reportedly Withdraws Men From Rivers State Secretariat

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has reportedly directed the immediate unsealing of secretariats across the 23 local government areas (LGAs) in the state. The directive came in a statement issued on Monday, October 7, 2024, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Rivers State Command, Grace Iringe-Koko. The statement explained that the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Mustapha, was tasked with ensuring the withdrawal of all police personnel who were initially deployed to seal and safeguard the LGA secretariats.

The statement read, “In light of recent political developments in Rivers State, the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Mustapha, conveys the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for the immediate withdrawal of all police personnel previously stationed to secure the Local Government Secretariats.

“This decision reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s stance on neutrality and its dedication to ensuring the uninterrupted operation of democratic institutions.

“Police personnel will only be redeployed in the event of any crisis or breakdown of law and order. In such cases, emergency measures will be swiftly implemented to restore normalcy.

“The Rivers State Police Command assures the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and order throughout the state and will continue to act professionally. We urge residents and stakeholders to remain calm and law-abiding as the situation unfolds.”

Recall the police had sealed the 23 LGA headquarters in July amidst the crisis that followed the controversial tenure extension of the former chairmen.

The facilities were manned by police personnel during that period.

NCDC Raises Alarm Over Cholera Increase in 2024

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said that the cholera outbreak in Nigeria has seen a sharp increase in 2024, with suspected cases rising by an alarming 220 per cent.

The NCDC, on its official website, said this was according to the latest epidemiological report. The Nigerian Public Health Agency said that by the end of epidemiological week 39, the country had recorded 10,837 suspected cases and 359 deaths.

It said the figure represented a 239 per cent increase in fatalities compared to 2023.
