UCCDA Sets Up Enforcement Team for Motor Parks and Street Trading

The Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) has inaugurated a Special Development Control Enforcement Team (SDCET) to address the challenges facing the capital city.

The team inaugurated by the Chairman of UCCDA, Rt. Hon. ANIETIE EKA, yesterday, is tasked with enforcing development control in line with the Town Planning Laws and Laws of Akwa Ibom State 2022, as amended.

The enforcement team, according to the agency,  will focus on several key areas, including unapproved filling stations, illegal parks and street trading, cemeteries, telecommunication masts and billboards, client service, and estate development.

According to Rt. Hon. EKA, the inauguration of the special team is part of UCCDA‘s efforts to transform Uyo into a smart city, in line with Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda. He noted that the team’s work will focus on addressing challenges such as traffic congestion, compromised safety, and hindered aesthetics, which undermine the city’s potential.

On his part, the Head of Town planning Department, UCCDA, EDIDIONG EDOHO, said the development would bring sanity into the sector while ensuring public safety.

Speaking on behalf of the committee heads, Koffi Ayado, the  Head of Unapproved filling station, Gas Station Outlet Unit assured that the committee will live up-to its expectation.

Kano Pillars Defeat Enyimba 2-0 to Ahead of the NPFL 24/25 Restart

Kano Pillars yesterday defeated Enyimba 2-0 in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, matchday 14 encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

A brace from ABBA ADAM gave the host the boasting right in a game that was dominated by Kano Pillars.

USMAN ABDALLAH’S side made a bright start but had to wait until the 26th minute before scoring the curtain raiser through Adam.

Enyimba, who suffered their first defeat in 10 league outings, have now failed to score in their last five visits to Kano.

However, Kano Pillars moved to seventh position in the table following the win. Enyimba on other hand dropped to eighth position on the table.

Marbug Virus Kills 9 in Tanzania

Nine people have been confirmed deadin Tanzania following an outbreak of the Marburg virus.

The country on Monday confirmed the second outbreak of the deadly virus in its history, following a 2023 outbreak that killed six people, but has not commented on any recent fatality figures.

Africa CDC’s chief of staff and head of the executive office, NGASHI NGONGO, in a weekly briefing held yesterday, said the African Union’s Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said there have been 10 cases that have been notified, of which nine have already died.

NGONGO said that teams, including members who had already countered a recent outbreak in neighboring Rwanda, were already on the ground.

The CDC Chief noted that from the 10 cases reported, about 281 contacts have been listed and are being followed, praising the tracking of the virus so far.

Governor Umo Eno Appeals for Better Relationships Between Investors and Host Communities

Akwa Ibom State Governor, PASTOR UMO ENO, has urged all investors in the State to ensure robust engagements with different stakeholders within their host communities.

The Governor stated this at a meeting with a delegation of UDUNG UKO stakeholders and the management of AMALGAMATED Oil Company Nigeria Ltd, following a face – off between the company and the community.

He said every investment should positively impact on the host community and any contrary development must not be encouraged.

Governor Eno noted that a Labour and Industrial Committee will be inaugurated to interface between investors, host communities and other stakeholders.

He noted that the peace and security which has become synonymous with the State must be maintained.

The Governor who carefully listened to all the stakeholders including the team lead for the company, PAUL OBI SAN, emphasized on the need for a template of operation that will benefit all, and urged the elders and youths of Udung Uko to embrace the company and support them to succeed for the good of all.
