Akwa Ibom State Government to Pressure Contractors on Timely Delivery of Projects

The Akwa Ibom State Government has vowed to swing into action and exert the needed pressure on contractors handling road projects to complete them within scheduled timelines.

Commissioner for works and Fire Service, Professor ENO IBANGA gave the assurance during a press briefing to update Akwa Ibom people on road projects and infrastructural expansion investments under Governor UMO ENO’s administration.

Professor IBANGA reiterated the firm commitment by the State Government to complete road infrastructure projects inherited by previous administrations as well as completing the ones initiated by Governor UMO ENO.

The Commissioner further pleaded with citizens of the State to complement Government investments in infrastructural expansion by not erecting structures on waterways, drainages and right of ways.

He noted Governor UMO ENO has so far injected 47.93 Billion naira into Thirty-Six of the inherited projects and 4.04 Billion naira into Fifty-One of the Emergency intervention Projects inherited from the immediate past administration, bring it to a total of 51.96 Billion naira spent in that category.

Residents Decry Poor State of Internal Roads Due to Tabernacle Road Drainage on Calabar/Itu Highway

Residents and Business Owners within the Ikpa Road Axis of Uyo Metropolis have decried the deplorable state of the road, particularly from Uniuyo Annex Gate to the traffic light, also known as Big Daddy Junction.

They maintained that the situation of the road has become a life threatening one, as tricycles frequently fall inside the pool of congested water leaving the Riders and Passengers injured.

Speaking with INSPIRATION FM Correspondent, ENDURANCE OKON, the Residents and Business Owners lamented that the damage was caused by heavy duty vehicles using the road as an alternatives route to link the Calabar/Itu highway through Oku Village.

They however, called on the Akwa Ibom State government to intervene, by ensuring that heavy duty trucks are stopped from using the road, as it was not constructed to carry such vehicles.

Responding to the development, the Akwa Ibom state Commissioner for works and fire service, Prof. ENO IBANGA said the State Government has awarded a contract for the construction of the Road.

The Federal Government will on November 1, arraign 76 #End-bad-governance protesters before Justice OBIORA EGWUATU of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The 76 protesters were arrested in Abuja, Kaduna, Gombe, Jos, Katsina, and Kano, during the protests which were held across several parts of the country between August 1 to 10, 2024,.

The protests were sparked by widespread economic hardship, leading many Nigerians to take to the streets to express their grievances. During this period, security officials allegedly used tear gas, arrested, and in some cases, shot at protesters.

The protesters who are facing a 10-count charge are accused of intent to destabilize Nigeria, treasonable felony, treason, among others.

NUJ Recognizes Pastor Umo Eno As Nigeria’s Most Media Friendly Governor

the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has recognized Governor UMO ENO of Akwa Ibom State as the Media-Friendly Governor of the year.

The pronouncement was done at the Union’s 3rd Annual Milestone Recognition event, held in Lagos.

The President of the Union, Chief CHRIS ISIGUZO, while conferring the Award of the Most Media Friendly Governor 2024 on Governor UMO ENO said the Governor has within the last one year and eight months in office distinguished himself.

According to the President, this has been done through the Governor’s effective use of different Media Channels to interface and inform Akwa Ibomites of his Policies, Programmes and Interventions, which are delivered through the vehicle of the ARISE Agenda.

CHRIS ISIGUZO specifically commended Governor UMO ENO for his simplicity and respect for media professionals and media institutions in his state and beyond.

Gov. Eno was represented by Deputy Governor Senator AKON EYAKENYI at the Award ceremony where she asserted that partnership with the media is a priority for any responsible leadership.

Other honorees at the event include,His Excellency, Mr. MOSES EKPO, Veteran Broadcaster; COMFORT UMANAH, Prof. UMAR PATE, and others.
