Police Arrest 13 Year Old Primary School Pupil in Eket For Threatening Classmate With Gun

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 13-year-old male pupil of Saint Paul Primary School, IKOT IBIOK in the Eket Local Government Area of the State for threatening his fellow pupils with a locally made pistol in the school.

Parading the suspect with his father, among other criminal suspects at the State Police headquarters, Ikot Akpan-Abia, Uyo, the Public Relations Officer, DSP TIMFON JOHN, said the suspect was arrested following a distress call by the school authority, as he was seen threatening other pupils with it.

She said the police arrested the suspect and his father and recovered the pistol, adding that investigations were ongoing.

DSP TIMFON JOHN added that the command led by Commissioner MOHAMMED AZARE, will not relent in its effort to rid the state of all crimes and criminalities, urging the public to continue to support them with useful information and prayers for them to succeed.

UCCDA Gives 7-Days Ultimatum to Street Traders and Illegal Parks in Uyo

Chairman of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), Hon. ANIETIE EKA has issued a seven-day grace period for roadside traders within the capital city.

The traders are expected to vacate the roads and relocate to designated markets in Uyo.

The decision follows efforts by the UCCDA management to end roadside trading through sensitization tours, radio announcements, and various engagements with stakeholders.

Eka, in a meeting with the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Trade and Market Matters, Hon. Idorenyin Raphael and other key market executive members from Uyo Senatorial district in his office made it known that Pastor Umo Eno means well for the city and strongly opposes roadside trading.

Here the Governor is captured speaking with the traders on the ills of roadside trading.

Eka, therefore, advised the concerned traders to conduct their business within the market premises.

Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Trade and Market Matters, Hon. Idorenyin Raphael, alongside market executive members from Uyo Senatorial District, decried the proliferation of illegal markets within the capital city.

They expressed full support for the government’s plan to carry out a citywide clean-up exercise.

Traders have been advised to take advantage of the one week grace to vacate the road.

Argentina Plans to Pull out of World Health Organization

The Argentine government led by JAVIER MILEI has announced that it plans to pull out of the World Health Organisation – WHO.

A spokesman for President MILEI said the decision to exit the WHO was triggered by deep differences regarding health management especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The announcement comes just over two weeks after United States President; DONALD TRUMP signed an executive order to begin the process of withdrawing from the international health body.

The two leaders have expressed admiration for each other, with MILEI calling TRUMP’s re-election the greatest political comeback in history, while the US president described his Argentine counterpart as my favourite president.

NERC Issues Regulations on Procedures for Electricity Tariff Review

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission – NERC has issued regulations on the procedure for tariff reviews.

 

The latest order, signed by NERC Chairman, SANUSI GARBA, stated that pursuant to the provisions of the Electricity Act 2023, the commission is obligated to review and approve a fair tariff to allow licensees to recover prudent costs and a reasonable return on capital invested in the business for the provision of electricity services.

 

The regulator said an initial review of the applications shall be completed and a consultation paper developed no later than 90 days after the deadline for the submission of the applications.
