Action Alliance Confirms its EXCO for New 4 Year Tenure

The Action Alliance – AA, one of the political parties present in Akwa Ibom state, has reaffirmed the current 20-man executive council to lead the state chapter of the party for another four-year tenure.

Members of the party reaffirmed their confidence in the current leadership during its elective state congress held on Saturday at the party secretariat in uyo, after the ward and local government congresses.

The party is led by CALISTUS ANDEM as chairman, with JIMMY ITA UMA as vice chairman, ITORO IDUNG as secretary, MMETIMA-OBONG ESIET as treasurer, MARTHA CHARLIE as publicity secretary, MERCY OFEM as woman leader and UYIME AKPAN as youth leader, among others.

Speaking with newsmen, the party chairman, CALISTUS ANDEM, said the re-affirmation process was smooth, even as the party focuses on strengthening its membership base ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He specifically thanked the Akwa Ibom state government under pastor UMO ENO for fostering political inclusivity in the state.

Akwa Ibom State Police Command Denies Harassment of Pregnant Woman Over 3rd Party Insurance

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has issued a statement clarifying a viral video circulating on social media of an incident involving a woman who was stopped allegedly for contravening traffic regulations and driving without valid third-party insurance.

According to the police in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, DSP TIMFON JOHN, the woman was lawfully stopped at Idoro Road by Atiku Abubakar Way in Uyo on February 1, 2025, and was assigned a special constabulary officer to escort her vehicle to the designated police division.

However, she said instead of proceeding to the station, the woman diverted to a park in Itam and later to another location, where she raised a false alarm, endangering the constabulary officer’s safety.

The PPRO said the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has resolved the matter amicably with the woman and her family.

Nigerian Nationwide League set to Resume in April

The Nationwide League One, NLO, has approved Friday, April 11, 2025, as the kick-off date for the new season.

In a communiqué by the NLO, following the league’s Annual General Assembly held virtually, the assembly resolved that the league would be played in a stadium league format.

The league body is expected to determine the venues for the league.

NLO also announced an increase in the participation fee for the new season as more than 130 teams are expected to participate in the league.

President Tinubu Rings Changes to Federal Universities

President BOLA TINUBU has announced significant leadership changes at several federal universities, including the University of Abuja, now known as YAKUBU GOWON University.

In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President, BAYO ONANUGA, these changes are effective immediately.

ONANUGAnoted that at Yakubu Gowon University, President TINUBU dissolved the entire governing council and relieved Professor AISHA SANI MAIKUDI of her duties as Vice-Chancellor.

Senator LANRE TEJUOSO, currently Pro-Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, has been appointed Pro-Chancellor of the Yakubu Gowon University. He will be succeeded in Makurdi by Senator JOY EMORDI, now pro-chancellor of ALVAN IKOKUUniversity of Education.

President TINUBUemphasised that these changes reflect his administration’s commitment to revitalising Nigeria’s higher education system through dynamic leadership and accountability.

The restructuring aims to strengthen governance and academic excellence within Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
