Ebola Cured? Congolese Doctor; Jean-Paul Muyembe discovers Potent Ebola Treatment

Two new experimental Ebola treatments have worked so well they will be offered to all patients in the Democratic Republic of Congo, scientists announced Monday in a medical breakthrough.
This is a massive boost to the region, which has been suffering an Ebola epidemic that has killed at least 1,800 people and infected 2,800 more in a disaster the World Health Organization declared a global emergency.

The antibody-based treatments, known as REGN-EB3 and mAb-114, saved 90 percent of the patients who received them in the infection’s early days. Originally part of a four-treatment trial that began in November, these treatments worked so well that researchers recommended that scientists should focus on these two and stop the other two treatments. The makers of the treatments said there would be enough doses for all patients with Ebola.

Dr. Jean-Paul Muyembe, director of Congo’s National Institute for Biomedical Research, has been working to find a cure for Ebola since 1976. He said, “I had this idea a long time ago, and I’ve waited patiently for it. I’m very happy, and I can’t believe it.”

The treatment is said to cure 90% of the tested cases with symptoms reducing within 1 hour.

El-Zakzaky decries state of Indian Hospital, seeks return to Nigeria.

Shi’ite leader Ibraheem El-Zakzaky has alleged in a Viral audio that the conditions at the Indian hospital he was taken to is worse than that of Nigeria, and as a result intends to return to Nigeria.

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), was flown to India on Monday following a Kaduna court order to allow him and his wife seek treatment abroad.

He had requested to be allowed to travel to India for advanced medical treatment following the deterioration of his health and that of his wife, Zeenah, in detention where they had been since 2015.

In the audio, Mr El-Zakzaky accused the Nigerian government of frustrating his medical treatment in India. Speaking in Hausa, he said the situation at the Medanta Hospital, New Delhi is “pathetic and worrisome situation.”

“The hospital officials received us well they told us that they parked two ambulance vehicles, deceiving the crowd while taking us out through another way, saying that it was for our own safety.

“On getting to the hospital, we are placed under a tighter security situation worse than what we have been witnessed in Nigeria. We are currently more confined than when we were in Nigeria, worse than prison setting.

“Contrary to what was agreed before our arrival, that our own personal doctors would supervise this treatment. Now they’ve changed the arrangement. So, we objected receiving treatment from strange doctors without the supervision of our own trusted physicians,’’ he noted.

In the audio, the IMN leader said he wants to return to Nigeria to source for a reliable and trusted hospital among those countries which include Malaysia and Turkey that have offerred help.
