Akwa Ibom State Police Command Reads Riot Act to Criminal Elements

The Akwa Ibom state police command has issued a stern warning to criminals disrupting peace and order in the state, declaring they either turn a new leaf or move out of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer – PPRO of the Command, DSP TIMFON JOHN issued the warning in a press briefing held at the Akwa Ibom Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan-Abia, Uyo.

DSP TIMFON said the commissioner of police BABA MOHAMMED AZARE has vowed to intensify the efforts of the Police to track down and dismantle criminal networks across the 31 local government areas.

Speaking further, DSP TIMFON reeled out the achievements of the Command in apprehending suspects of various crimes across the state, urgig members of the public to support law enforcement efforts by providing credible information that will make Akwa Ibom a safer place for the citizens.

Akwa United Fire Service Reiterates the Need for Safety Standards as Fire Guts Gas Shop

The Akwa Ibom State Fire Service has appealed to citizens and residents operating businesses that handle flammable materials to adhere strictly to safety standards in order to prevent fire outbreaks in the state.

This follows a fire that broke at a gas outlet in Ikot Ntuen Nsit, off Abak Road yesterday, injuring an Attendant as well as destroyed properties worth millions of naira around the area.

Eyewitnesses who spoke with INSPIRATION FM said the fire began when the attendant was refilling a customer’s cylinder.

Meanwhile, confirming the fire incident in an exclusive interview with Inspiration FM News, the Public Relations Officer of the Akwa Ibom Fire service, Mr. EMMANUEL UDOFIA, complained the absence of essential fire prevention gadgets at most gas outlets in the state.

According to national safety regulations, businesses dealing with gas and other combustible materials are required to install fire suppression systems, conduct regular fire drills, and train employees in emergency response.

Serbian Prime Minister MILOS VUCEVIC has resigned, following months of mass demonstrations over the fatal collapse of a train station roof in November.

The Balkan country has been rocked by regular protests in the wake of the deadly disaster at the train station in the northern city of Novi Sad that killed 15 people, following extensive renovations at the facility.

The collapse has ignited long-standing anger across Serbia over corruption and the alleged lack of oversight on construction projects.

The prime minister has been in office for less than a year.

CBN To Pay All Pending FX Backlogs

The Governor of the Central Bank, OLAYEMI CARDOSO has announced that forensic verification to clear all pending foreign exchange backlogs is now completed and payments will commence soon.

 

Speaking during the launch of the foreign exchange code, CARDOSO lamented how it took the bank over twelve months to clear the $7 billion foreign exchange backlog in 2024.

 

In March last year, the CBN announced clearance of the backlog, effectively eliminating a legacy burden.

 

The apex bank boss said the era of multiple exchange rates which accorded privileges to a select few is gone, adding that all deposit money banks that flout the ethics of the foreign exchange code will face sanctions.
