Victorious Yellow Greens Quartet Return to Akwa Ibom

Three of the four Akwa Ibom daughters that made Nigeria’s senior women’s cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, have returned to Uyo, the state Capital, after a victorious outing at the 2023 Nigeria Cricket Federation Women’s T20i tournament, in Lagos.

The Quartet, led by Captain Blessing Etim also had the team’s Wicket Keeper Sarah Etim, Esther Sandy and Salome Sunday. The girls expressed their profound joy at being chosen to participate at the epoch making event.

The Female Yellow Greens were meeting the reigning champions, Rwanda for the second time in two days, in a bid to avenging their loss in last year’s final and also avoid a repeat of their defeat on match-day five of this year’s edition.

Captain Blessing Etim won the toss for Nigeria and elected to bat first.

After a slow start in the power play, Salome Sunday and captain Etim saw off the first inning with some incredible batting, which saw Nigeria race to 99 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs while the defending champions had to manage 90 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

Captain of the side, Blessing Etim, was named the best fielder of the series.

The girls who were received at the Victor Attah International Airport by their Manager at The Blue Diamonds Cricket club of Uyo, Coach Akanimo Kufre paid a courtesy visit on arrival to the Group Manager Marketing and Communications of Ibom Air; Aniekan Essienette.

Aniekan Essienette heaped praises on the young ladies for making the state, their Families and the Nation proud. She described them as beacons who must realise that they must continue to be role models to other girls in society.

April 4, 2023 Omo Agege’s Expulsion Divides APC in Delta State

Omo Agege’s Expulsion Divides APC in Delta State

The expulsion of Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege by the All Progressives Congress in Delta State over alleged anti-party activities has divided the party.

The Ulebor Isaac-led Delta APC Executive Committee announced Omo-Agege’s expulsion in a letter dated March 31, 2023,

The expulsion letter signed by Isaac Ulebor said the decision was taken by the Delta APC Executive Committee at a meeting held on March 31, 2023 at the state secretariat in Asaba.

The letter said the executives reached the decision after deliberating on “the Notice of Resolution of Expulsion of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege,” which was submitted “by the executive committee of the Orogun ward and Ughelli North Local Government.

“Consequently, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege hereby stands expelled as a member of the party with immediate effect for various offences committed and acts of anti-party activities and gross misconduct that has brought shame and ridicule to the image of the party in the state which affected the party in the just concluded elections,” the letter read.

But in a twist, the Omeni Sobotie-led leadership of the APC in Delta State described those behind Omo-Agege’s expulsion as “rabble-rousing impostors.”

A statement jointly signed by Sobotie and state Secretary, Peter Akarogbe, said the signatories to the purported expulsion “are not only dubious impostors, but very reckless with their publication.”

The statement read partly, “We, the legitimate and only recognised State Executive Committee of the party, at the national headquarters, in consultations with all other levels in the chain, hereby disclaim the publication as fraudulent, a ruse and of no consequence.

“Therefore, it should be disregarded and ignored as the handiwork of mischief-makers by all party faithfuls and the general public.”

The letter called on the security agencies “to take note of the wanton rascality and the unscrupulous intent to cause disharmony and a breach of public peace.”

It also urged “the general public, party faithfuls and stakeholders to discountance the said publication, and view it as the worthless undertaking of men with crooked intentions.”

Chelsea Sack Head Coach Graham Potter After Aston Villa Loss

Chelsea Football Club have sacked Graham Potter as their head coach.

Potter was appointed as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement on September 8 on a five-year deal, but has left the club just seven months into the contract, after winning only seven of his 22 Premier League games in charge.

The former Brighton manager was sacked in a meeting on Sunday at 2.45pm, even though some Board members had called for his sack much earlier. Many believe the home loss to Aston Villa was the straw that broke the Camel’s back.

Graham Potter’s assistant Billy Reid has also left the club. Assistant coach Bjorn Hamberg and goalkeeper coach Ben Roberts will remain and assist Bruno Saltor, who has been appointed as interim head coach.

Chelsea face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals later this month but Potter’s departure follows Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa on Saturday night, a result which left the Blues 11th in the Premier League table, 12 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

In 22 Premier League Matches, Graham Porter Managed 7 Wins, 7 Draws and 8 defeats. His teams scored and conceded 21 goals, and failed to score in 9 games.
