RS Berkane Down Orlando Pirates in CAF Confederations Cup Final in Uyo.

An explosive CAF Confederations Cup Final match came to a climax on Friday night as RS Berkane of Morocco emerged winners of the 2021/2022 Campaign after seeing off Orlando Pirates via a 5-4 penalty shootouts in the finals at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

The Match was well attended by the creme the la creme of sports in Nigeria and Africa at large. The Minister of Youth and Sports development Sunday Akin Dare was hosted by Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, alongside CAF President; Patrice Motsepe, NFF President Amaju Pinnick among other top dignitaries.

The Buccaneers started sharp and created a lot of chances enough have wrapped up the game early had they been clinical enough.

As early as the third minute of the game, they had an opportunity when Goodman Mosele sent Dean Hotto through on goal with a through pass but He fluffed his lines. It was to be the first of many such opportunities to be missed.

The game stood barren after 90 minutes, forcing it into an extra time of 15 minutes per half.

Seven minutes into the first period of added time, RS Berkane who had not created much all game had their best chance to score, and they took it.

Referee Janny Sikazwe visited the pitch-side monitor to check on a foul by substitute Monare on Mokadem from a corner-kick.

The Orlando Pirates man was adjudged to have swept down Mokadem inside the box.

Youssef El Fahli stepped forward to send Ofori the wrong way to net his fifth goal of the campaign.

Orlando Pirates fought to get themselves back into contention and piled on the pressure, and were rewarded for their hunger three minutes to the end through a bizarre goal by Lorch.

The Orlando Pirates forward had intended to push a pass into the penalty box as they pushed Berkane into their own area.

However, his intended pass was missed by everyone and crept into the bottom right of Akbi Hamiani’s goal.

The game then went down to the lottery of Penalties as results stoof at a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time.

RS Berkane converted all their five kicks through Hamza El Moussaoui, Youssef Zghoudi, Ismail Mokadem, Issoufou Dayo and Brahim El Bahraoui who scored the winner.

Happy Jele scored the first for Pirates before Lorch, who had scored the late equalizer, missed his spot kick.

Tshegofatso Mabasa, Thabang Monare and goalkeeper Richard Ofori all went ahead to score their Penalties but the Lorch damage had been done already.

The Win handed RS Berrkane their second Confederations cup  in three years and completed a Moroccan total dominance of the tournament in the last three years.

Breaking News: Explosion Rocks Sabo Area of Kano State

An explosion has left several people injured and possibly claimed lives Aba Road in the Sabon Gari area of Kano State.

The Explosion was said to have occurred in a building housing a feed store opposite a Primary school on the Popular street. Initial amateur videos had shown school children being evacuated from the scene of the incident while residents where trying to rescue others that were trapped in the rubble.

The Department of Security Service (DSS) boss in the state, Muhammad Alhassan; and the Police Commissioner, Samaila Shuaibu Diko, Operatives of the military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) were first respondents at the scene.

The Kano State Government has denied that it was an attack on the school, insisting that it was an animal pet store that was destroyed in the explosion.

Muhammad Garba, the state Commissioner for Information, said that the government is trying to ascertain the cause of the explosion as well as the level of damage and casualties. He cautioned the public against spreading unsubstantiated news and gave the assurance that the government would keep the public updated on any development on the matter.

The Government has called on all to remain calm while the government works with relevant agencies on the matter.

Reports reaching us from Anambra state has it that unknown hoodlums set ablaze the Idemili North Local Government Area secretariatin the early hours of Monday.The inferno was said to have consumed the Magistrate Court inside the premises and the office of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

 

Men of security formations and residents intervened just in time to contain the fire which was targeted at razing the entire premises, although Parts of the secretariat building and the operational vehicles parked on the premises, however, were completely destroyed.

 

The Police in the state confirmed but said there was no human casualty. “Yes, there was an attack at the council secretariat in the early hours of Monday and our men were quickly drafted to the scene,” State Police Public Relations Officer, Toochukwu Ikenga, said. “Right now, the fire has been put off, and calm restored.”

Oruk Anam Killings: Hon. (Dr) Kingsley Frank Condemns Murder, Promises Justice Will be Served.

The Council Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Kingsley Frank has condemned and warned against renewed killings in the area.
He said this on his visit to Ekparakwa on Sunday  following the assassination and subsequent murder of the pioneer PDP Chairman of Oruk Anam, Sir Sylvester Ntefreh and his relative, Mr Emmanuel Ntefreh by unknown gun men.
According to him, the gruesome nature of the killing has made him in particular very sad and the killings unacceptable.

Unknown gunmen were said to have arrived the residence of the deceased in a SUV and dragged him outside while other members of the gang  shot sporadically in the air.

Eye witnesses stated that the  gunshots by the assailants attracted the attention of the youths who raised alarm against the gunmen, forcing the whole community to chase them.

Sadly, the gunmen had already abducted and taken the victim to a nearby bush where he was shot while other members of the gang who were waiting in a standby vehicle abandoned it, and escaped through the bush.

Dr Frank who described the death of Sir Ntefreh as a huge loss to humanity, warned desperate power seekers and rumor mongers against Politicizing the death of the revered gentleman. He however, expressed his condolence to the bereaved family and the entire people of Ekparakwa Clan over the demise of their titled first son.

While commending men and officers of the Nigerian Police for the Swift response today, the chief security officer of Oruk Anam called on all citizens to remain calm even as he reiterated his directive to security and intelligence agencies to do everything they could to bring perpetrators to book.
