Aiyedatiwa Returns as Governor of Ondo State

The Ondo State Governor, Mr LUCKY AYEDATIWA, has been declared the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

He was returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission after winning the governorship poll in all 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

AYEDATIWA, who won in EseOdo Local Government Area in the last Local Government result presented on Sunday at the State Collation Centre in Akure, had previously won in the 17 areas earlier announced.

In the final declaration of the result by the State Returning Officer, Prof OLAYEMI AKINWUMI, he said the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, AYEDATIWA polled in total of 366,781 votes to defeat AGBOOLA AJAYI of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 117,845 votes.

In his acceptance speech, LUCKY AIYEDATIWA urged opposition parties to join hands with him and develop the state together. He promised to run an all-inclusive government.

Ibeno Community Cries out for Potable Drinking Water

The People of OkoriItak community in Ibeno Local Government Area has appealed to the state government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and well-meaning individuals to help restore drinkable water for the community.

The people made the appeal when a humanitarian group, Action AIDS, partnered with the Clement Isong Foundation to visit the community with the aim of bringing the plight of the oil communities in Ibeno to the limelight.

They complained that lack of maintenance of the dilapidated water project, which was installed for them in 2005, has forced them to resort to an abandoned weed-infested shallow oil well as the only source of water.

Speaking with Newsmen, the youth president of OkoriItak, Mr. OKON VICTOR ITRECHIO, complained about the negligence by the government and Network Exploration and Production Nigeria, anOil company operating in the area despite having agreements and receiving several letters from the community for intervention.

Speaking further, another member of the community, Mr. Joseph Nana, called for help to make the community have sustainable and portable water to drink.

AKIRS Begins Deployment of Digital Technology for Tax Collections

The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) has announced that it will begin the deployment of digital technologies for tax collection from next year as part of effort to increase the internally generated revenue IGR of the state.

The Executive Chairman of AKIRS, Mr. OKON OKON, made the announcement during a press briefing yesterday in Uyo, noting that the decision formed part of the resolutions reached ina two-day strategic session for the 2025 fiscal year that ended on Saturday.

Mr. OKON maintained that the exercise is to enhance revenue collection and capture tax invaders in the state.

The AKIRS Executive Chairman further promised to provide an enabling environment to encourage entrepreneurship across the state.

He promised to ensure that the state progresses in terms of IGR by up scaling the ongoing tax sensitization and enlightenment campaigns to raise awareness on tax payment   as a civic responsibility, and deepen voluntary compliance.

Super Eagles in Uyo to Soar Over Rwanda’s Amavubis

Super Eagles have landed at the Obong Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo ahead of Monday’s Matchday 6 clash in the concluding round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with Rwanda.

The Super Eagles, confirmed group winners, have nothing to chase other than national pride and will play a more relaxed game against the visitors.

Nigeria’s delegation flew from the Ivorian capital, Abidjan, to Uyo aboard a chartered ValueJet aircraft.

Uyo’s magnificent Godswill Akpabio Stadium is the venue, and a carnival atmosphere is expected as the Super Eagles celebrate for 90 minutes and afterwards with the AFCON ticket long in the bag.
