NACA Aims for HIV Free Nigeria with GENERATION NEGATIVE

Interventions to arrest new HIV infections are gaining momentum as the National Agency for the Control of AIDS – NACA, collaborating with Maximizing Options for Informed Choice for HIV Prevention – MOSAIC, a USAID funded project, anchors a campaign that is youth centered – GENERATION NEGATIVE.

The campaign is targeted at catering to the young population who are contributing to new infections and interestingly a more vulnerable group; Adolescent Girls and Young women who statistics show are more prone to HIV infection.

The initiative aims at creating a movement where every individual including key actors in the HIV space become a hero by consciously working at prevention; cutting back new infections, ahead of the 2030 target of ending the HIV epidemic.

The World Breasfeeding and Tuberculosis Testing Week in Review

August 1st -7th of every year is usually set aside as the world breastfeeding week to raise awareness on why it is important for mothers and families to embrace breastfeeding in order to obtain the benefits that it offers.

 

The world health organization posits that newborn babies should be breastfed exclusively for the first six months of their lives and with complimentary meals up till 2 years of age.

 

The need for much more awareness on this issue continues to increase as statistics have shown that only 3 in 5 babies are breastfed in the first hour of their lives and nearly 2 out of 3 infants are not exclusively breastfed for the recommended 6 months.

 

The world health organization has set a target to increase breastfeeding by 50% by 2025 but only 44% success has been recorded, hence the need for more sensitization in order to hit and even surpass the target goal.

 

In the same vein, Nigeria observed the Tuberculosis (TB) testing week/awareness campaign as part of efforts to increase tuberculosis case findings with a view to achieving the 2035 target to end TB.

 

Every first week in the month of August is dedicated to driving conversations around Tuberculosis as experts believe that early diagnosis and treatment is the sure way of cutting the chain of transmission of tuberculosis (TB) in the country.

 

According to the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Programme, Nigeria ranks six among the 30 high burden countries in the world as every undiagnosed or untreated case could infect 15 people within a year.

 

Inspiration FM contributed to these health observations with stories highlighting various issues concerning the breastfeeding awareness and Tuberculosis testing week.

2023: Onofiok Luke Switches Support Towards Umo Eno’s Emergence in Akwa Ibom

The member representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency in the house of Representatives, Barr. Onofiok, has switched his allegiance towards the emergence of the PDP Governorship Candidate for 2023, Pastor Umo Eno.

Onofiok Luke made this known at a reconciliatory meeting held at the palace of Oku Ibom Ibibio and Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk,

the Former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, who was also a Governorship Aspirant in the same race, but withdrew from the PDP primaries said, “I have to honour my people, my fathers – the traditional rulers, the PDP which gave me a platform to serve the people. I will work for the emergence of Pastor Umo Eno as Governor of Akwa Ibom State come 2023.”

In his response, Pastor Umo Eno, thanked Barr. Luke and promised to work with him with an open heart.” I am your senior in age but God has raised you as my senior in politics. I will never take this for granted. Help me reassure your teeming supporters that your people shall be my people.”

The Oku Ibom Ibibio, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk appreciated all parties involved and charged them to work together in the interest of peace and overall development of Akwa Ibom people.

“Go and work together as great sons of Akwa Ibom and get the victory.” Ntenyin Solomon advised.

Gernot Rorh Wants Payments From NFF With Interest

Super Eagles former coach; Gernot Rohr, claims that because the Nigeria Football Federation took so long to pay him, they would have to pay him his unpaid salary plus interest at the current exchange rate.

The Franco-German was relieved of his job as the Eagles gaffer last December, following a series of underwhelming performances by the three-time African champions.

Despite moves by the NFF to pay his salary until the end of his contract, which should have expired in December, Rohr, the Eagles’ longest-serving coach took the case to world football body FIFA, demanding an additional £1m for breach of contract “without just cause” but FIFA instead approved $377,879.46 (N155m as of December 2021 and N157m at the current official dollar to naira rate).

A ruling by the FIFA players’ status chamber in May ordered the NFF to pay Rohr the money within 45 days, after ending his contract abruptly adding that the country’s football governing body would be sanctioned if Rohr was not paid in full within 45 days.

“If full payment (including all applicable interest) is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the respondent (the NFF) shall be imposed a restriction on receiving a percentage of development funding, up until the due amounts are paid,” said the FIFA decision.

However, 85 days after the ruling by FIFA, the former Bordeaux manager told journalists that he was yet to get a penny from the NFF.
