Nigerians Decry Brain Drain in The Health Sector

• Call for Government’s immediate intervention.

Statistics reflect that the Doctor to Patient ratio is widening rather than decreasing.
According to Data released by the Nigeria Medical Association NMA, the 1:600 doctor to patients ratio is no longer applicable as we now operate on a ratio of 1:5000 doctor to patients. What a frightening rise.
It has become a dire situation as Doctors leave Nigeria in droves to practice in other countries.
NMA in April 2022 raised alarm over the mass exodus of Doctors, who the body noted are accessing Jobs in Europe, America, and Asia. This leaves a deficit in Nigeria’s health sector with about 30,000 doctors to cater to patients and sustain the overburdened Health care system.
Inspiration FM gathered that Citizens are lamenting what they termed an omen as they also advised the Nigerian Government to quit acting unperturbed by the situation.
Our Correspondent GLORY SILAS in this report examines the situation, taking us through the challenges and critical aspects that need urgent interventions for change in the narrative.
Do take a listen.
