Ibom Plaza Management Committee Assures Traders of Safety Amidst UCCDA Clampdown

As the Uyo Capital City Development Authority, UCCDA moves to put an end to street trading, Chairman of Ibom Plaza Management Committee, Comrade EDIDIONG VINCENT has assured traders of their safety and security.

He gave the assurance while addressing traders at the Ibom Plaza Community, Uyo, in the hit of the demolition of illegal stalls by the UCCDA.

Comrade VINCENT expressed the traders’ willingness to support the government’s initiative and the efforts of the UCCDA, urging all roadside traders to relocate into the stalls inside plaza, noting that the UCCDA has intensified monitoring to ensure full compliance with the ban on illegal street trading.

He commended Governor UMO ENO for his friendly disposition towards traders in Akwa Ibom, appealing to the governor to fulfill his campaign promises, including providing grants to traders, appointment of Special Assistant from the Ibom Plaza community and provision of electricity, water, and toilets to enable traders to carry out their daily activities conveniently at the available stalls.

On their part, the traders commended Comrade EDIDIONG VINCENT and assured of their cooperation with the government and the UCCDA during the clearing exercise.

Governor Umo Eno Sues for Peace, Bars Indiscriminate Press Releases by Appointees

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has charged citizens of the State, especially government officials to work always towards maintaining the prevailing peace and unity in the State. He also tasked government officials to maintain decorum by discharging their responsibilities devoid of chaos and actions that could be inimical to the peace and harmony in the State, and therefore prohibited indiscriminate issuance of press statements by State Government officials other than by the Commissioner for Information and the Chief Press Secretary, except by express permission of the Secretary to the State Government.
Governor Eno gave the charge today during a Sunday worship service at the Uyo Archdiocesan Headquarters of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Itiam Etoi, Uyo. He clarified ahead of the constitution of the new Executive Council that he is not building a war cabinet, but a delivery team to interpret the ARISE Agenda and further build bridges across the various fabrics of the State.
He urged all appointees to emulate the disposition of Joseph as a member of the Egyptian cabinet, imbibe a forgiving spirit and work towards the development of the State.
No appointee of Government has a right to issue a Press Statement without clearance from the office of the Secretary to Government. There are only two people that have the right to issue press statements on behalf of the Government of Akwa Ibom State, the Commissioner for Information and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, nobody else, please.
“Let us allow the decency and the decorum in this State to continue and to grow. We can work together and continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. We are called to deliver on the promises of the ARISE Agenda. We are all enjoying the peace we have in this State, let’s do all we can to maintain it.”
He commended the Church for its organization and the homilist’s admonition for peace and harmony, and reassured everyone of his commitment to supporting the christian community.
The Methodist Archbishop of Uyo, Most Rev. John Ene Koko-Bassey, speaking on “Forgiveness,” culled from the Bible book of Genesis 45:3-5, made reference to the story of Joseph’s encounter with his brothers who sold him into captivity in Egypt and urged Christians to emulate Joseph’s disposition in the face of offences and cultivate the virtue of forgiveness.
Situating his message to the happenings in the State, the Archbishop acknowledged the godly and forgiving disposition of Pastor Umo Eno as he admonished Christians, politicians and the entire people of the State to see his reign as God sent to unite the State.
The cleric urged the and people to emulate the Governor’s disposition by joining him to unite the State and the Christian community, adding that unforgiveness is a devil’s tool for propagating bitterness, divisiveness and a hindrance to progress.

Tax Reform Bills Scale 2nd Reading at House of Representatives

The House of Representatives has passed for second reading four consolidated tax reform bills submitted by President BOLA TINUBU on Wednesday, with no opposition from members.

The bills included the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, the Nigeria Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill.

It would be recalled that the bills were first read on October 8, 2024, but the debate was delayed due to disagreements on the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, primarily from northern leaders and the Nigerian Governors Forum.

Despite this, Speaker ABBAS TAJUDEEN encouraged members to consult widely with their constituents before debating the bills.

Federal Government Sets Up Security Team to Protect Power Infrastructure

The Federal Government has decided to set up a special security team to protect its power installations and infrastructure

Minister of Interior OLUBUNMI TUNJI-OJO, said this today during a televised interview monitored by Inspiration FM News.

According to the minister, he security personnel called the ‘power rangers’ will be created with officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and will be responsible for stopping the vandalism of power infrastructure which has caused blackouts across the country.

Amid growing reports of vandals damaging power installations and outcry over frequent blackouts sometimes caused by vandalism, the minister said it was critical to find a unique solution to the problem.
