First Lady Doles out N100,000 to Elders in Rivers State

Wife of President Bola Tinubu, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has presented cash gifts of N100,000 to each of 250 selected elderly persons in Rivers state.

The first lady, represented by the wife of the Rivers Governor, Valarie Fubara, said the initiative was part of President Bola Tinubu’s agenda of enhancing the socio-economic growth of the nation.

“This was borne out of the commitment and the determination of the president agenda towards supporting the aged and the elderly, to enable them engage in productive ventures,” she said.

“We are fully committed and determined to improve the welfare of the aged and the elderly citizens,” she added.

She said the initiative would further promote inclusiveness and compassion among Nigerians, saying no one would be left out by the scheme.

She assured that the wellbeing of the aged and the elderly would be prioritised in recognition of their immense contributions to the nation.

“This scheme was to support 250 vulnerable elderly citizens, aged 65 and above”

“This was also to cushion the effect of the economic situation as well as alleviate the economic hardship being experienced by our esteemed elders” She added.

“I urge you to embrace life to the fullest, prioritise your health, nurture your minds and strengthen your bonds with loved ones and with God” she said.

Tinubu also assured that the young, old and less privileged would also be supported through economic empowerment initiatives

” We would empower millions of families, while training would be provided for farmers on how to access fertilizers, seedlings and equipment to boost agricultural productivity”

Presidency Orders Probe Into Ibadan Explosion

The President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government has directed investigations into the explosion that rocked Ibadan, Oyo State on Tuesday, which resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of over 60 houses, describing it as as a sad and tragic occurrence.

Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Oladele Alake, disclosed this in a statement, expressed his condolences and sympathies to the victims and their families.

Alake said: “I offer my condolences over lost lives on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals to Governor Seyi Makinde and the good people of Oyo State.

“I also extend my sympathy to the wounded and other victims who suffered one loss or the other, especially residents whose houses were destroyed. I pray to the Almighty God to comfort the family of the deceased and grant succour to those who lost valuables as they begin to rebuild.

“Oyo state government and emergency response agencies of both the state and federal governments have promised to help as much as possible. In the interim, I have directed the ministry’s mine officers who are already on site in Ibadan to join ongoing investigations to find out the immediate and remote causes of the explosion.

We have ordered a detailed investigation, and our officers will work and collaborate with the Oyo State Government to know the actual cause. If the explosion was caused by mining explosives devices as earlier reported, the ministry will double its effort to tighten the noose around those acquiring explosives and storing them illegally.

He commended Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state for the rapid mobilization of emergency response, including the deployment of fire service, police and security agencies.

He urges members to always be safety conscious and report persons or organizations endangering public health and security.

NPFL Board Banish Abia Warriors and Heartland Over State of Pitches

The home grounds of Abia Warriors in Umuahia, the Abia state Capital  and Heartland FC in Owerri, Imo state,  have been withdrawn from playing hosts to matches in the 2nd round of this 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier League; NPFL, season due to poor condition of the pitches.
The NPFL board had received several complaints on the condition of the pitches from visiting clubs with Video evidence and decided on the fate of the clubs going forward.
Both clubs are expected to select alternative home grounds from 3  NPFL approved venues in Aba, Enugu or Port Harcourt on or before their Matchday 19 fixtures.
The Umuahia Township Stadium & Dan Anyiam Stadium will only be reconsidered for playing hosts to any more NPFL games after appropriate measures are taken to improve the playing surfaces to meet required standards.

Rivers PDP Chairman Sworn Into Revenue Mobilisation Commission and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC)

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Bola Tinubu, has sworn in Ambassador Desmond Akawor as a Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in Abuja.

Ambassador Akwawor; the current Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State,  was recently screened for office by the Senate, alongside others,

The brief swearing-in ceremony was held minutes before the commencement of the first Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in the year, in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Immediately after the swearing-in ceremony, the President presided over the (FEC) which has the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume and other members of the cabinet in attendance.
