Akwa United Shoot down 3SC in Uyo to Boost Chances of Escaping Relegation

Akwa United FC boosted their chances of avoiding relegation with a vital 2-0 win over Shooting Stars of Ibadan in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 29 fixture yesterday, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

The Promise Keepers began the day in 19th place on the NPFL table and were desperate for points to climb out of the relegation zone. Shooting Stars, on the other hand, came into the game aiming for a continental spot but were winless in six matches, having lost three and drawn three.

Akwa United continued their pressure after the break and were finally rewarded when defender ENDURANCE EBEDEBIRI scored from close range. A poor clearance from the visitors fell kindly to Ebedebiri inside the six-yard box, and he made no mistake in slotting home the opener.

The victory takes Akwa United’s points tally to 31 from 29 matches, giving them hope of surviving relegation with nine games remaining this season.

Newcastle Defeated Liverpool to End 70year Trophy Wait

Newcastle ended their 70-year trophy drought in stunning style as DAN BURN and ALEXANDER ISAK sealed a 2-1 win against Liverpool in the League Cup final last night, ending a drought that dates back to the 1955 FA cup win.

EDDIE HOWE’s side made history at Wembley with a superb display that left the runaway Premier League leaders shell-shocked.

Burn put Newcastle ahead late in the first half and Isak’s 27th goal in all competitions doubled their lead after the interval.

FEDERICO CHIESA got one back in the closing seconds, but Newcastle held on for their first major silverware since the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

US Government Set to Impose Travel Bans on 43 Countries

The DONALD TRUMP administration is considering an expanded travel ban, potentially targeting citizens from up to 43 countries.

This new proposal could go beyond the restrictions imposed during his first term. A draft list circulating within the administration includes a ‘red’ list of 11 countries, including several African nations—Somalia, Sudan, and Libya—alongside Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.

During his campaign, TRUMP vowed to reinstate the travel ban, which first gained attention in 2017 when he signed an executive order which barred Syrian refugees and temporarily suspended entry for citizens from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

The decision sparked protests and legal challenges, with critics calling it the ‘Muslim ban.’ When President JOE BIDEN took office in 2021, he repealed the ban. Now, this new proposal suggests a return to similar policies.
