Akwa Ibom State Governor Appoints New AKICORP Boss

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO has approved the appointment of Obong IDE O. OWODIONG-IDEMEKO as Chairman, Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation, AKICORP.

 

Mr OWODIONG-IDEMEKO has extensive professional and managerial studies from some top institutions in the world including PeopleSoft University, United Kingdom, Insead School of Business, Fontainebleau – Paris, France; and Thunderbird School of Global Management, Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

 

He possesses expertise in Human Resources, Business Leadership, Planning and Strategy, Organizational Effectiveness, Labour and Industrial Relations, and extensive interface in the Nigerian Oil and Gas industry, as well as within EM Regional and Global Business and Support organizations.

 

In statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr OWODIONG-IDEMEKO’s appointment takes immediate effect.

Manchester United scraped into the FA Cup final on penalties despite throwing away a three-goal lead against Championship side Coventry in an epic semi-final at Wembley.

SCOTT MCTOMINAY,HARRY MAGUIRE AND BRUNO FERNANDES had given Manchester United a 3 nil lead  as they looked set for an easy win, however Coventry City did  not give up as goals from Ellis Simms,Callum O’Hare and Haji Wright made it 3 all within 90 minutes of regulation time.

 

The game was further stretched into extra time and penalty shootout where Manchester United won 4-2 to book a spot in the final against rivals Manchester City who defeated Chelsea 1 nil in the first semi-final game played on Saturday.

Elsewhere in Spain, JUDE BELLINGHAM scored a late winner as Real Madrid beat Barcelona to move 11 points clear at the top of La Liga after an enthralling El Clasico.

 

Bellingham smashed into the roof of the net as the clock ticked into stoppage time as Real twice came from behind at the Bernabeu.

Andres Christensen scored the opener for Barcelona but a ViniciusJr penalty had the game level at half-time.

 

FERMIN LOPEZ made it 2-1 to Barca before LUCAS VAZQUEZ equalized again.

The victory puts Real Madrid firmly on track to reclaim the title with just six games left to play this season.

Labor Gives Federal Government 7-Point Agenda Ahead of Workers Day on May 1

Moving on to Labour matters, the Nigeria Labour Congress – NLC has listed seven demands from the Federal Government ahead of the May 1, 2024 Workers’ Day.

 

Aside from demanding for a new minimum wage, the NLC is also asking for the creation of state and local government police to tackle insecurity in the country.

 

The congress also stressed that states and local governments, as well as the organised private sector, must pay the new minimum wage when it is eventually approved.

 

The 2024 Workers Day is particularly being looked forward to as it is expected that President BOLA TINUBU may unveil the newly proposed minimum wage for workers in the country on that day.

FG Confirms Nigeria’s Qualification for US$ 2.25b World Bank Loan

The Federal Government has announced its qualification for a loan from the World Bank, totaling 2.25 billion dollars.

 

The minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr WALE EDUNunveiled this milestone during a joint press conference held by the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington D.C.

 

He said the package, approved by the Board of Directors of the World Bank, offers a 40-year term with a 10-year moratorium and a nominal 1 percent interest rate.

 

He added that Nigeria is set to benefit from budgetary support and low-interest funding from the African Development Bank, noting that negotiations with foreign direct investors are also underway.
