Ini Communities Seek Government Intervention Help Over Recurrent Boundary Dispute

The age long community boundary dispute between Ubet Okom group of villages and Mbente village in Nkari Clan of Ini local government area has gotten messier.

 

Community members have reported that people have lost their lives and property worth millions of naira damaged as another round of clashes took place last week.

 

Lending their voice to the reoccurrence of violence, Ini people under an umbrella body, Peace and Unity Advocacy Foundation has sent a Save Our Soul (SOS) message to the Akwa Ibom State Government through the office of the Deputy Governor, Senator AKON EYAKENYI.

 

In the message, they are asking for a lasting solution to end the ongoing perennial crisis by complete seizure of those boundary lands in dispute for government farming or building of Industries to avert further loss of innocent lives and properties.

 

In a release jointly signed by the Chancellor of the Foundation, Mkpisong Prince NDAEYO NYAUDO INUAEYEN JP, the Director General, Pst. MICHAEL SAMPSON, Jr. Director of Information Strategy, ENGR IDARA AKPANOWO, Director of Community Affairs, Comrade THEOPHILUS UKPABIO and the Patron, Pastor HENRY AKPABIO, the PEACE AND UNITY AMBASSADORS described the dastardly act of Murder of  Mbente Sons as “Unacceptable and Highly Condemnable”.

Pediatric Association of Nigeria Makes Case For More Vaccine Champions in Nigeria

The Pediatric Association of Nigeria – PAN is particular about improving the vaccine coverage in the country and working at reducing issues of zero dose in communities.

The Association has therefore taken action in this regard by training pediatricians in the south-south region of Nigeria on how to promote vaccine uptake in communities.

The Pediatricians who were sensitized on tackling vaccine hesitancy and improving demand generation at a one day workshop in Uyo were also prepared for the upcoming Phase 2 Human Papiloma Virus- HPV vaccination programme.

Also, the training alsobecame necessary following the roll out of the first phase of the HPV vaccine by the federal government to cover Akwa Ibom, 14 others states and the federal Capital Territory FCT.

The initiative formed part of the clinical measures aimed at protecting the teenage girls of ages 9 to 14 in the country against cervical cancer and related diseases.

Speaking with INSPIRATION FM News at the event, the President, Pediatric Association of Nigeria, Prof. EKANEM EKURE said vaccinating the teenage girls (9-14years) will help build immunity that will fight against cervical cancers and other diseases.

 

On her part, Consultant Pediatrician at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Dr FRANCES OKPOKOWURUK noted that the boy child can also be infected with the virus, hence will need vaccination too, while Director General Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, VIVIEN OTU called on all stakeholders to create more awareness about the HPV vaccine.

 

Some delegates from Rivers and Cross River States at the training had this to say.

The training which is in partnership with the International Pediatric Association will be held in all the regions in the country and it is targeted at raising immunisation champions to sensitize citizens about the HPV vaccines.

The Phase 2 vaccination programme for HPV will commence on May 20, 2024 in some south South states including Rivers, Cross River, Edo, and 18 other states.

Super Falcons goalkeeper CHIAMAKA NNADOZIE has been nominated for the best goalkeeper award in the French D1 Akem which is a women’s top-flight league in France.

 

NNADOZIE will battle Olympic Lyon’s CHRISTIANE ENDLER and KATAR-ZYNA KIEDR-ZYNEK of PSG for the award.

 

The 22-year-old was also nominated for the top prize last season.

 

NNADOZIE has been in fantastic form for Paris FC this season, both in the league and UEFA Women’s Champions League.

 

She was named Player of the Month for March in the French D1 Akem.

the Inspector General of Police (IGP) KAYODE EGBETOKUN believes the country is not mature for state policing despite the myriad of security challenges facing it.

 

He spoke on Monday during a national dialogue on state police held in Abuja with the theme ‘Pathways to Peace: Reimagining Policing in Nigeria’ and maintained that among other factors, “there is the potential for abuse of power by the state political leadership.

 

EGBETOKUN further revealed a plan by the Federal Government to establish a 100 Billion Naira Police Housing Fund.

 

He noted that upon his appointment as the IG, he identified the welfare of police personnel as a cornerstone of his administration.
