Akwa Ibom State Government Preach Practices Against Cholera

The Akwa Ibom state Government has highlighted the preventive measures that should be followed in order to avoid cholera in the state.

 This is coming on the heels of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control – NCDC revealing that as of24th June 2024, a total of 1,528 suspected cases and 53 deaths were recorded across 31 states.

 Ensuring that cholera is avoided in Akwa Ibom State, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. AUGUSTINE UMOH,in a Release, called on everyone to keep their environment clean and also ensure a personal hygiene.

 The commissioner also advised the people to drink only safe water including boiled or disinfected water,  eat food that is completely cooked and hot, wash fruits and vegetables before eating and preferably eat only those that can be peeled as well as avoid open defecation.

 Meanwhile, speaking with INSPIRATION FM Newsthe director of Health promotion, Akwa Ibom state primary health development agency, Mrs. MAGARET ETIM urged citizens to adopt preventive measures so as to be safe from the disease.

Federal Government Steps Down Minimum Wage Memo to Consult with OPS and State Governors

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has stepped down consideration and deliberations on the memo on the new minimum wage to allow President BOLA TINUBU engage in more consultation with stakeholders.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, MOHAMMED IDRIS, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents on the decisions taken at the council meeting.

He said the President has studied the report submitted by the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage and would consult further before a final submission on a new national minimum wage to the National Assembly.

Talks for a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers have been on for a while. The Minimum Wage Act of 2019, which made ₦30,000 the minimum wage, expired in April 2024. The Act should be reviewed every five years to meet up with contemporary economic demands of workers.

The Management of Akwa United Football Club have expressed appreciation to God Almighty, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State Pastor Umo Eno, Hon Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports and all the fans and supporters of the club for their prayers and support to the team which they say was instrumental to the team’s strong finish at the just concluded 2023-24 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

Addressing staff of the club Monday morning in Uyo, Chairman of the club Elder Paul Bassey expressed gratitude, first to God Almighty for journey mercies and protection granted the team throughout the season and above all, for crucial victories the team enjoyed which helped the club to retain their place in the Premier league, made possible by relentless prayers of the club’s spiritual fathers.

Elder Bassey was particularly grateful to Governor Umo Eno for his massive support and trust in the team especially during the just concluded season which he described as the most turbulent season the club has experienced in the last eight years.

His Excellency Governor Umo Eno should be appreciated for all the encouragement , moral and financial support we got during the season just ended.

“His Excellency’s love and support for the beautiful game has been massive and that support is evident even in his administration’s support for grassroot development as well as matches involving our senior national team the Super Eagles

The Club Boss also poured encomiums on his Principal the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports Sir Monday Ebong Uko who he described as his “pillar of strength “

“ I never met his doors closed. Working with him has been an experience that gold cannot buy.

“ Impossible does not exist in this man’s dictionary of life. He hates regrets and “had I known “ always pushing and encouraging.

“ His belief in me as a person and in my capacity propels me to greater heights. An exemplary leader “ The Chairman said.

Elder Bassey appreciated all the calls and messages from football administrators, fans and the media community across the country whom he said encouraged the team throughout the difficult season.

The Club Chairman did not forget to thank the club technical crew led by Coach Babaganaru who despite the poor state of the club was bold enough to take up the gauntlet and succeeded. The players, management and staff who he described as “ committed, prayerful and hard working “were not left out of his speech.

He rounded up by promising to start in earnest, the process that will return the Promise Keepers to the Continent where they rightfully belong.

NMDPRA Responds to “Dirty Fuel” Controversy

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has said that it take seriously its responsibility to monitor and regulate the mid and downstream sector of the petroleum industry in the country.

 This comes on the heels of some meaning Nigerians expressing concerns that some major oil marketers are importing dirty fuel into the country.

 Similarly, the  Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, DEVAKUMAR EDWIN had on Sunday, accused the NMDPRA of granting licences indiscriminately to marketers, stating this has prompted import of unfit products into the country.

The NMDPRA’s Executive Director, Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure, Mr. OGBUGO UKOHA said the sulfur content of products being imported into the country is well below the 50 Parts Per Million (PPM) regulatory allowance.

 He said the Authority strictly monitor compliance with the PPM by all importers and refiners. He however, called on Nigerians not to panic as the products in the market are safe for consumption.
