British Prime Minister Meets First Minister to Scotland

British Prime Minister, Sir KEIR STARMER has met First Minister of Scotland JOHN SWINNEY for the first time since Labour’s landslide election win.

Speaking after their meeting, the prime minister said his new government got a clear mandate for change in the election, and one of the things that needed to reset was the relationship between the Scottish and UK government.

The new Prime Minister is touring the United Kingdom, and will next visit Wales and Northern Ireland before meeting mayors in England.

On the other hand, Mr SWINNEY said the pair had agreed to improve the relationship between the Scottish and UK governments, which had been very poor under the last Conservative government.

They committed to working collaboratively on areas of common ground, including growing the economy, delivering net zero and improving public services.

The Village Head of Ekpri Nsukara Offot in Uyo Local Government Area, Eteidung EMEM DENIS ASIKPO has lauded the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government – SSG, Prince ENOBONG UWAH for his diligence in the performance of his duties.

 

Eteidung ASIKPO said the SSG has, by his outstanding performance, excelled as a good ambassador of the Offot Ukwa Clan as well as the Uyo Local Government Area in the administration of Governor UMO ENO.

 

He said traditional rulers in the Offot Ukwa Clan are very happy with Prince UWAH for relating well with them and the people, and also for ensuring that the policies of Governor ENO, as encapsulated in the ARISE Agenda, are efficiently implemented.

 

Speaking on the sidelines of an interface with the SSG, the village head noted that the administration of GovernorUMO ENO has done so much for the people by offering quality leadership and impactful development across the state.

 

Eteidung ASIKPO pointed out that the governor’s non-discriminatory relationship with other political parties and their members through his inclusive governance approach has endeared him to the people, as well as engendered peace, unity, development and a sense of togetherness among all Akwa Ibomites.

The village head further expressed joy that Governor ENO does not sideline those who opposed him, did not support him, or had contested against him in the last governorship polls in the state.

 

According to him, as the headquarters of Akwa Ibom, the Uyo capital city plays host to people from other parts of the state and beyond.

Nigeria’s First Lady Encourages Women to Join in the Battle Against Food Insecurity

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator OLUREMI TINUBU has advised women on the need to be at the forefront of the Food Security Campaign in the country.

She gave the admonition at the State House Residence while unveiling her vegetable garden which she planted to encourage first time women farmers to join the ongoing Every Home A Garden Competition.

The First Lady who planted some vegetables including spinach, water leaf, bitter leaf, Ewedu, lemon grass, scent leaf and Okro said a little effort on the part of every individual will go a long way in ameliorating food insufficiency.

She encouraged first-time women farmers all over the country to join the competition by planting a garden in their homes such that the produce would be sufficient to feed them and their neighbours.

President Tinubu Re-Elected ECOWAS Chair

President BOLA TINUBU has been re-elected as the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), about one year after he took over the leadership of the regional bloc.

President TINUBU, whose first tenure is to elapse on July 9, 2024, was elected by a unanimous decision of fellow Heads of Government at the 65th Ordinary Session of the Authority.

The President who accepted his re-election, appointed the President of Senegal, BASSIROU DIOMAYEFAYE to join in the mediation with Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad.

He also urged member states of the regional bloc to make financial commitments to help in the fight against terrorism in the region.

Also speaking at the event, the president of the ECOWAS Commission, OMAR TOURAY informed the gathering of a proposal for a special extraordinary session to consider the future of the regional body.

The 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
