Nigeria and Brazil Sign MoU for Agricultural Advancement

The Federal Government of Nigeria and FundaçãoGetulio Vargas of Brazil have signed a Memorandum of Understanding- MoU to advance private sector development in fertiliser production, hybrid seed technology, and agricultural finance.

According to a statement from the Nigerian Presidency and signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, ABIODUN OLADUNJOYE, yesterday, the deal was signed through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

The statement also disclosed that the MoU was signed on behalf of the government by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr TEMITOPE FASHEDEMI, and the President of FundaçãoGetulio Vargas, Professor CARLOS IVAN SIMONSEN LEAL, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

It noted that the agreement marks a new phase of strategic collaboration between Nigeria and Brazil. The project, supported by Deutsche Bank, aims to deliver transformative agricultural technologies and knowledge transfer over its 10-year duration.

Governor Otu of Cross River Appeals for Time to Pay N70,000 Minimum Wage

In neighbouring Cross River State, Governor BASSEY OTU has appealed to labour unions in the state to shelve their planned industrial action over the non-implementation of the new minimum wage.

Mr OTU said his administration remained committed to the implementation of the new wage of 70,000 naira recently signed into law by President BOLA TINUBU.

He made the appeal during the 5th edition of the State Solemn Assembly, which was held at U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar. Represented by the Deputy Governor, PETER ODEY, the governor said his government would continue to prioritise the welfare of workers in the state.

He also urged the people of Cross River to continue supporting and praying for the administration to achieve its ‘People First’ mantra.

ICC World Cup Qualifiers: Selim Salau’s Golden Performance Delivers 2nd Victory For Yellow Greens

Edo State-born Selim Salau on Sunday had a historic date with ICC organised cricket competition as he scored a century run (112 runs) for Nigeria to defeat Cote d’Ivoire in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup sub regional Africa qualifier in Abuja.

Salau’s superb performance encouraged Nigeria senior men’s cricket team to overrun their West African counterparts cote d’Ivoire by 264runs.

Nigeria Yellow Greens batted first and accumulated 271 runs while losing only 4 wickets in 20 overs.

Cote d’Ivoire could not withstand Nigeria’s highly motivated boys who ended took out all opponents batters in the 7.3 overs. Cote d’Ivoire was humbled as they could only score 7 runs.

Salau’s golden strike of 112 runs off 53 ball will go into Nigeria’s cricket annals. Salau’s play also attracted reactions from Nigeria Cricket Federation President, Mr. Uyi Akpata and NCF General Manager, Mr. Emeka Igwilo.

“Special thanks to Coach Steve Tikolo for the good works and transformation of our national Men’s Team since becoming the Head Coach and High Performance Manager.

“No doubt, our players cum team performance has improved tremendously and it is so evident for all to see.”

Mr. Akpata who also applauded the team’s performance described it as “World record!”. Nigeria on Saturday defeated St. Helena by 118 runs.

Mr. Akpata is inching towards his vision to see Nigeria play at the Cricket World Cup. Already, Nigeria’s Female U19 team has secured a World Cup ticket for 2025 in Malaysia

Nigerian Navy Dismantles Smuggling Syndicate in Mbo

The Forward Operating Base, FOB, of the Nigerian Navy at the coastal waters of Ibaka, in the Mbo local government area has dismantled a syndicate specialising in smuggling petroleum products and other illicit goods to Cameroon and other countries within the Gulf of Guinea region.

The Commanding Officer of the Base, Captain UCHE ANEKE, made this disclosure while handing over the suspects, the seized items and other essential goods worth millions of naira to the officials of Akwa-Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC.

Those arrested included three suspected oil thieves carrying 2,000 litres of petrol, and 1,000 cartons of beer for onward transmission to the neighbouring Republic of Cameroon.

ANEKE said the suspects were arrested while on routine night patrol in Mbo River during a stop-and-search operation.
