Nationwide Blackout Looms as Gas Suppliers Stop Sales Over N2trn Debt

An electricity blackout is imminent following the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s directive to gas producers to cease supplying gas to indebted generation companies (GenCos).

NMDPRA stated that the substantial debts owed to producers had hindered their ability to sustain operations.

It called on gas off-takers, particularly power generation companies, to ensure timely payment for the gas supplied. The federal government and some GenCos currently owe over N2 trillion in legacy debts to gas producers in Nigeria.

Akwa United Accept Babaganaru’s Resignation

Following a string of poor results, Coach Muhammed Babaganaru quit at Akwa United, to leave room for impending changes.
The Club’s management in a release sent to Inspiration FM’s sports desk reads in parts’
The Management of Akwa United Football Club can confirm the resignation of its former head coach Muhammed Babaganaru following the team’s 1-1 draw with Bendel Insurance on Monday night. The coach resigned from his position as head coach with Akwa United at the bottom of the league table after 16 rounds of matches.
In his reaction after accepting the coach’s resignation chairman of the club Elder Paul Bassey said “In football tradition around the world, when results are not forthcoming it’s the coaches that pay for the poor run of form irrespective of their output, past antecedents. Babaganaru is a good coach who has worked with many clubs in this country and won trophies but it didn’t just work out for him as planned this season.
He joined us last season and contributed immensely helping us to beat the drop, we can’t forget that and we commend him. I can say that our results and position on the log this season is not a true reflection of the work he has done with the team.
“Akwa United is a team with rich history and pedigree, so struggling in the relegation zone is unacceptable and we cannot continue in that direction.
“Coach Muhammed Babaganaru is a core professional, we will miss him. His resignation may not be the only solution to our problem, we are not happy with the performance of our players and we have started planning to strengthen the team when the mid-season transfer window opens in January.
“Babaganaru knows how it works and he has tendered his resignation and we have accepted it in good faith while wishing him well in all his future endeavours.
“ A gentleman to the core, hardworking, humble and a team player. It was a pleasure working with him
At the moment, the team’s psychologist Coach Ime Uko will act as the Technical Adviser while the assistant coaches led by coach Umar Abdullahi are in charge of the team until a substantive head coach is named
Akwa United, league champions in 2021 and two-time winners of the FA Cup are in the drop zone on the log with 16 points from sixteen games comprising four victories, four draws with eight loses.

Court Denies Zambia’s Lungu 3rd Term

A Constitutional Court in Zambia has ruled that former President EDGAR LUNGU is not eligible to seek a third term in office. The court’s decision comes after LUNGU announced his return to active politics last year.

The country’s highest court determined that LUNGU’s first term, served from 2015 to 2016 following the death of President MICHAEL SATA, counts as a full presidential term. This ruling effectively blocks his bid for a new mandate.

LUNGU said in a statement that yesterday’s verdict was steered by the hands of political manipulation.

The 68 year old faced allegations of corruption while in office, and his wife and other family members are facing graft charges in court which he says is a way from blocking him to seek a third time in office.

The vice president of LUNGU’s party said that the former leader was not concerned by the court decision and would continue to campaign and be the party’s presidential candidate in 2026.

She said tuberculosis is still a leading cause of death in Nigeria. The country ranks as the sixth highest burden country across the world and first in Africa. The World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Tuberculosis Report 2024 also reveals that Nigeria recorded approximately 467,000 TB cases in 2023.”

The first lady said despite a 24 percent decline in TB incidence rates between 2015 and 2023, Nigeria remains one of the top 30 high-burden countries, grappling with challenges such as HIV-associated TB and drug-resistant strains.
