Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rorh Gets The Boot

The Nigeria Football Federation; NFF has bowed to pressure by asking Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr to quit as manager of the Senior National Team.

The German gaffer was sacked despite Nigeria progressing to Africa’s 2022 World Cup play-offs.

The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, finished top of Group C despite being held 1-1 by Cape Verde in Lagos on Tuesday on the heels of un-impressive performances against Central African Republic and Liberia.

Rohr was appointed head coach of the Super Eagles in August 2016 and led the team to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The German’s conservative approach and Super Eagles’ uninspiring performances have been heavily criticized by the media and supporters.

Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard has been appointed as the new Aston Villa head Coach on a three-and-a-half-year deal to replace Dean Smith who got the boot last weekend.

 

Steven Gerrard left his role as Glasgow Rangers manager which would require compensation of between £3.25-4m to be paid to the Scottish giants for Gerrard and his assistant Gary McAllister.

 

“Stevie G” had been in charge of Glasgow Rangers since June 2018 and led the club to the Scottish Premiership title last season, ending Celtic’s nine-year reign as champions.

 

Villa sit 16th in the Premier League table, two points above the relegation zone after 11 games of their campaign.

Ikono Clan Youth Summit: SWAN partners ‘Think Ekuh Initiative’

The Ikono Clan Youth Summit 2021 organized by Think Ekuh Initiative (TEI) has gathered more momentum as the Akwa Ibom State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on Friday 5th November endorsed the Football Tournament fixed to mark the youth summit.

SWAN gave the endorsement after a partnership pact with the organizers of the summit as the Official Partner of Think Ekuh Initiative on the Football Tournament.

The football match which is tagged Elder Ndanti Ekuh Football Tournament will be played between the youths of Ikono Ward 8 and Ikono Ward 9 and has both the male and female youth categories.

Addressing members of the Sports Writers Association at the NUJ Press Center, Uyo, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Elder Ndanti Ekuh who led the organizers of the Summit to the SWAN Congress announced that the winner of the football match in the male category will win a trophy accompanied by one hundred thousand naira cash prize and a medal while fifty thousand naira is set for the first and second prize in the female category.

Further, he said the match will take place on Wednesday 1st December at Secondary School, Ikot Oku Ikono by 3pm after a kick-off by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang accompanied by the Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority, Otuekong Prince Enobong Uwah.

In his part, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of SWAN, Comrade Emmanuel Akpan commended Elder Ndanti Ekuh and his advocacy group, ‘Think Ekuh Initiative’ for putting up the sporting activity as part of events for the youth summit, noting that it was an indication that the Governor’s Aide is not only a youth, but also feels the pulse of the youth in his clan and therefore assured cooperation between SWAN and ‘Think Ekuh Initiative’ for the success of the tournament.

Elder Ekuh was accompanied by the Chairman of the summit planning committee, Atauko (Deacon) Ekemini Etukho among others.

Meanwhile, the Ikono Clan Youth Summit 2021 will take place on Thursday 2nd December at the Civic Center, Ikot Ekpeyak Ikono by 10am and will be Chaired by the Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Sir Monday Uko while the Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo will be the father of the Day.

The summit which has as its theme, “Come Let’s Reason Together” will have the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong as the Keynote Speaker while the Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, Akparawa Michael Bush and the Dean of Students Affairs in the University of Uyo, Dr. Aniekan Brown are the guests speakers.

It could be recalled that “Think Ekuh Initiative” has recently sponsored an essay competition with the theme – FOR THE LOVE OF UYO in which the winner took home seventy thousand naira and a certificate.

NWFL warns clubs against late registration, as 2021/2022 season starts December 8

The Nigeria Women Football League headed by Aisha Falode has warned NWFL Premiership clubs to avoid late registration as the new season begins on December 8, 2021.
In a statement signed by the Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, Modupe Shabi, the league body advised the Premiership clubs to ensure they perfect all registration processes before the closing date which has been fixed November 25, 2021 ahead of the NWFL Premiership League kick off on December 8, as there won’t be any postponement of kick off date.
The statement noted that, late registration will attract a penalty fee of N400,000.
Modupe Shabi noted that: “At 12noon local time on November 25, 2021, all NWFL Premiership clubs must have submitted evidence of incorporation as a Limited Liability Company with the Corporate Affairs Commission, bank statement for a period of one year, signed financial guarantee form from the sponsor(s) of the club to honour all it’s fixtures obligations the league season.
“Clubs must also present before the commencement of the season, a comprehensive Pre-Competition Medical Assessment (PCMA) of all registered players using the FIFA Medical Clearance Form enclosed.
“The clubs must present Seasonal Insurance Certificates of registered players for the upcoming league season which will cover for accident, injury and death (Dekaizen Worldwide Limited Insurance Company). Adding that clubs must present at point of submission of licensing materials, list of officials and their designations. Original and duplicate copy of players contract, duly stamped by the NWFL before disbursement to the various parties.
A list of Coaching Crew with details of their qualifications, attaching credentials of which minimum requirement / certification – NIS Advance Course of Coaching Study.” Noting that: “Uncertified NIS or equivalent coach will not be eligible / qualified to sit on the technical bench during matches
