Gernot Rorh Wants Payments From NFF With Interest

Super Eagles former coach; Gernot Rohr, claims that because the Nigeria Football Federation took so long to pay him, they would have to pay him his unpaid salary plus interest at the current exchange rate.

The Franco-German was relieved of his job as the Eagles gaffer last December, following a series of underwhelming performances by the three-time African champions.

Despite moves by the NFF to pay his salary until the end of his contract, which should have expired in December, Rohr, the Eagles’ longest-serving coach took the case to world football body FIFA, demanding an additional £1m for breach of contract “without just cause” but FIFA instead approved $377,879.46 (N155m as of December 2021 and N157m at the current official dollar to naira rate).

A ruling by the FIFA players’ status chamber in May ordered the NFF to pay Rohr the money within 45 days, after ending his contract abruptly adding that the country’s football governing body would be sanctioned if Rohr was not paid in full within 45 days.

“If full payment (including all applicable interest) is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the respondent (the NFF) shall be imposed a restriction on receiving a percentage of development funding, up until the due amounts are paid,” said the FIFA decision.

However, 85 days after the ruling by FIFA, the former Bordeaux manager told journalists that he was yet to get a penny from the NFF.

Amazons, Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume Put Nigeria on Medal Table at World Athletics Championships

Nigerian sprinter Oluwatobiloba Amusan became the first Nigerian athlete to win a World Athletics Championship gold as she powered to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles in Oregon on Sunday, breaking the World Record in both the semifinal and then again in the final.

Tobi Amusan, who had broken the world record in the semifinal where she clocked 12.12sec, went a step further in the final at Hayward Field in 12.06sec.

Sadly, her winning time will not be recognised as a world record, due to a strong following wind of 2.5 metres per second.

Jamaica’s Britany Anderson took silver in 12.23sec, while Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico claimed bronze in 12.23.

Amusan had produced a jaw-dropping world record in the semifinals, smashing the previous best mark of 12.20secs held by Keni Harrison of the United States since 2016.

“Honestly, I believe in my abilities but I was not expecting a world record at these championships,” Amusan said after her final victory. “The goal is always just to execute well and get the win. So the world record is a bonus. I knew I had it in me but I could not believe it when I saw it on the screen after the semis.

“Before the final, I just tried to stay calm and to do my best. I took a deep breath knowing that I have some goal to accomplish and it worked pretty good. I knew it was very fast but not this fast.”

Another Nigerian, Ese Brume also won a silver medal in the women’s long jump at the World Athletics Championship.

She placed second behind German Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo, who continued her dominance in the women’s long jump by soaring to a second successive World Championship gold with a final leap of 7.12 metres on Sunday (Monday morning Nigerian time).

The silver medal, achieved with a leap of 7.02m, was an improvement for Brume, who had won a bronze medal last time out at the World Championship.

Brazil’s Leticia Oro Melo took bronze with 6.89m.

Oshoala won the Golden boot after scoring 24 goals in Liga Femeni, despite missing weeks of action due to injury. She emerged as the highest scorer in the Spanish female division.

She beat Ajara Nchout Njoya of Cameroon and Zambia’s Chanda to clinch this 5th.

Mane, who won the top award when it was last staged in 2019, successfully retained it at the 2022 edition that took place Thursday in Rabat, Morocco.

Now with the German club, Bayern Munich, Mane has always been a key member of both his former club, Liverpool, as well as the Senegal national team whom he helped earlier in the year to their first Africa Cup of Nations title after many years of futile attempts.
