Nigeria Withdrawn From International Basketball for 2 Years

Nigerian teams will not participate in any international Basketball competition for the next two years. This is as a result of an approval given by the Federal Government for  the immediate withdrawal of Nigeria from all international basketball competitions with immediate effect.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development; Sunday Akin Dare disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Abuja earlier today (thursday).

The Minister, represented by Ismaila Abubakar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, said a committee would be set up to oversee basketball leagues in the country.

“Following the unending crisis which have plagued and nearly crippled the development of basketball in Nigeria, President Buhari has approved the withdrawal of Nigeria from all international basketball competitions for a period of two years.

“This is with immediate effect,” he said.

The minister added that the withdrawal of Nigeria is in order to concentrate efforts by government towards revamping the sport from the grassroots as well as domestic leagues which have become moribund.

“This will also allow for the setting up of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the management and development of the domestic basketball leagues in Nigeria,”

Tyson Fury Retains WBC and Lineal Heavyweight Titles with 6th round Dyllian Whyte Knock Out

Tyson Fury knocked out Dillian Whyte in the sixth round to retain his WBC and Lineal heavyweight titles in front of a fully packed Wembley stadium on Saturday night.

Dyllian Whyte walked into a stunning uppercut with a few second to go in the sixth round, although He Clambered back to his feet, but too dazed to continue and the referee had to end proceedings.

Whyte had surprisingly started the fight as a southpaw in the opening round, a move which seemed to rattle Fury initially, before switching back to orthodox in the second.
Whyte was guilty of swinging wildly in the next couple, while Fury settled into his work and ominously began to find his range, connecting with a couple of decent right hands on Whyte.

Tensions boiled over in the fourth and Whyte lashed back with an elbow, unhappy after picking up a cut above his right eye following a clash of heads.

Water then appeared to be thrown in the Fury corner as the pair again had to be separated after both delivered some blows to the back of the head.

Whyte was rattled in fifth, throwing punches off balance, and he eventually walked into a devastating knockout blow in the sixth

Tyson Fury speaking after the bout hinted at retirement in keeping with a promise made to his wife Paris after the Fury-Wilder 3 to quit the sport.
