Dutch Lads Defeat Future Eagles at International Dream Cup

The U16 national team of Holland in the early hours of Wednesday handed the Future Eagles a 1-0 loss in their first match at the ongoing Four-Nation Tournament in Japan.

Nigeria boys were shaky in the early part of the game and conceeded from Jim Broller in the 12 minute but slowly gained confidence to put up a better performance.

Despite spirited efforts however, their efforts to bring the game to level terms proved abortive.

Nigeria will play against USAin the next game and host Japan in the  final match.

Heats Burn out the Bolton Celtics in Eastern Conference Finals

The Miami Heat are officially headed to the NBA Finals after a 4-3 Win in the Eastern conference Finals.

Caleb Martin and the Miami Heat held off the Boston Celtics on Monday night at TD Garden to take Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals 103-84. Martin dropped 26 points and shot 11-of-16 from the field in what turned out to be a blowout win in Boston. That snapped a three-game win streak for the Celtics, and kept the Heat from landing on the wrong side of NBA history.

The Celtics were just the fourth team in league history to even force a Game 7 after falling into a 0-3 series hole. No team has ever successfully rallied from that deficit and won the series in 151 attempts.

The Heat are headed to their second NBA Finals in four seasons.

Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 19 points and 8 rebounds, though he had a career-high 8 turnovers — which set a Celtics franchise record in a Game 7. White finished with 18 points, and Tatum added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Brown, Tatum and Marcus Smart shot a combined 3-of-19 from the 3-point line.

Butler finished with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the win. He was named the Eastern Conference finals MVP after the game, and averaged 24.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.1 assists throughout the series.

Akwa Ibom State Government Commissions Another World Class Stadium in Uyo

The Renovated Uyo Township Stadium in Akwa Ibom State is set to be inaugurated today (Wednesday) May 24, 2023, as the Administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel winds down.

This adds to the number of world class sports facilities owned by the , Akwa Ibom State government. Asides  the prestigious Godswill Akpabio international stadium dubbed the Nest of Champions, inaugurated in 2013 and the remodeled Eket Stadium that was opened for use in 2022.

Located in the heart of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, the Uyo Township Stadium has an Olympic size swimming pool, Indoor sports halls plus Astro turf playing surface for football matches.

A ground that once shouldered all sporting activities in Akwa Ibom State, the Udom Emmanuel led administration through the Sir Monday Uko manned Ministry of Youths and Sports undertook remodeling work to give the uplift the face of the facility in line with internationally acceptable standards.

Stallions of Nigeria Set for Paris 2024 Qualifiers

Nigeria’s senior men’s national rugby team, Black Stallions will attempt to grab a ticket for Paris 2024 Olympics thorough the qualifying series with the first game against Ghana in Mauritius.

The Black Stallions will be hoping to cause another upset by making it to the Olympics after shocking the world in 2014 by qualifying for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

They will take on Burundi which would be crucial before tackling the Democratic Republic of Congo in their last pool A match.

Nigeria began its preparation for the Olympics qualifiers in early May with the convergence of players based in the United Kingdom under the watchful eyes of Temi Okenla while newly appointed Black Stallions coach Steve Lewis has been supervising players based in Europe and the United States of America.

The bulk of the selected players is expected to go into close camping before traveling to Mauritius for the first phase of the qualifier.

Twelve countries will converge in Mauritius on June 24-25 to compete for the available four slots in the Africa Cup Sevens slated for Zimbabwe in September.

Participating countries include; Mauritius, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Botswana, Cameroun, Algeria, and Nigeria.

Others include; Burundi, Congo, Lesotho, Senegal, and Egypt
