Super Eagles in Abidjan to Defeat Benin Republic – Finidi George

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will square off against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in an all-important 2026 World Cup qualifier today by 5PM at the Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Nigeria, currently fifth in Group C, is eager to secure their first win of the qualifying campaign. The Super Eagles have drawn their initial three matches against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Their most recent match ended in a 1-1 draw against South Africa at the Godwin Akpabio Stadium.

Coach FINIDI GEORGE, who revealed his disappointment with the draw against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, is confident that the Super Eagles will bounce back and get their qualification hopes shining bright.

A win for Nigeria against Benin Republic who are second in Group C with four points would significantly boost Nigeria’s standing and revive their World Cup hopes.

The champions travelled to North London, knowing if they drop points, it would hand the initiative to Arsenal.

And it appeared this was going to be the case after the first half ended without any goals.

However, in the second half, ERLING HAALAND tapped in KEVIN DE BRUYNE’S low cross for his 26th goal of the season.

HAALAND scored the second goal of the game from the penalty spot after JEREMY DOKU was fouled in the area.

Everton Defeat Leaves Liverpool Title Dreams in Tatters, as Man United Secure Win Over Sheffield

Everton secured their first win in a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park since 2010 to leave Liverpool’s Premier League title aspirations in ruins after a 2-0 defeat on Wednesday.

Defeat leaves JURGEN KLOPP’s men still three points adrift of leaders Arsenal and only one point in front of defending champions Manchester City, who have two games in hand. Goals from JARRAD BRANTHWAITE and DOMINIC CALVERT-LEWIN took Everton eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Manchester United captain BRUNO FERNANDES led from the front to ensure another chaotic performance eventually ended in victory against relegation-threatened Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

With the visitors taking the lead twice, ERIK TEN HAG’s side were staring at a humiliating loss to a side who have won just three times this season.

But FERNANDES levelled from the penalty spot before driving Manchester United in front from 25 yards nine minutes from time.

The Portuguese created a first goal since February for striker RASMUS HOJLUND four minutes later to move his side up to sixth spot and earn praise from his manager.
