Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa Calls For Immediate End to Demonstrations

As the nationwide hunger protests entered the third day, a human rights lawyer EBUN-OLU ADEGBORUWA has called on Nigerians to suspend the demonstrations immediately.

ADEGBORUWA made the plea in a statement while reacting to the losses recorded during the ongoing demonstrations. He further urged President BOLA TINUBU to directly address the nation and then engage the protesters through their representatives.

It might interest you to know that ADEGBORUWA is one of the lawyers of the Take It Back Movement, one of the groups participating in the ongoing protests.

Expressing concerns over the violence that the protest has escalated into, the human rights lawyer stated that loss of lives was not the goal of the demonstration.

Security operatives shot three protesters dead in Yobe State as they attempted to vandalize food storage facilities owned by some international non-governmental organizations in Potiskum town. Many others were said to have been injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Nigerian Military Vows to Deal with Protest Hijackers

The Nigerian military has warned looters taking advantage of the #EndBadGovernance nationwide protests to desist from the destruction of lives and properties.

At a press conference in Abuja on the second day of the rallies against economic hardship and high cost of living, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General CHRISTOPHER MUSA said the extent of destruction experienced on the first day of the demonstrations was demented.

He said the Armed Forces will take action and will not allow the looting and destruction to fester; noting that the BOLA TINUBU’s administration has been in power for one year and the government has been doing its best to boost economic activities.

Speaking further, General MUSA called on Nigerians to suspend the protest, as their message has already been passed to the three tiers of Government.

The defence chief said the economic crisis and high cost of living in Nigeria is a global phenomenon. He urged Nigerians to give the government time to address the challenges.

Protesters Call on Police to Join in Protests

The hardship protest kicked off yesterday with diverse states recording peaceful demonstrations, butin some parts of the nation, it turned violent.

In Kaduna State, the police authorities called on parents and guardians to restrain their wards from indulging in disturbance of public peace during the protest, warning them to treat such tendencies with the seriousness they deserve.

Inspiration FM news gathered that Policemen fired teargas canisters at protesters assembling at the popular Berger roundabout in Abuja, earlier today.

There are concerns of increased violence in locations where the protests were hijacked with violent displays which left vehicles burnt in Yobe, shops looted in Kano, Bauchi and over 13 persons reported killed.

In Osun State, Residents again stormed major streets of Osogbo to press home their demands from the government.The protesters insisted that they would not rest on their oars until when their demands are met.

Meanwhile, in Akwa Ibom, despite the ex-agitators’ forum disassociating themselves from the demonstration in the state, a group of scanty protesters were spotted protesting around Ibom Plaza in Uyo.

Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner Calls From Intending Protesters to Submit Details to the Command

; the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, WAHEED AYILARA has called on organizers of the protest in Akwa Ibom State, ( if any ) to submit details of their activities to the office of the Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

The call, according to a release by the PPRO, ASP TIMFON JOHN is in compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police,KAYODE EGBETOKUN that all organizers of the protest should submit details of their activities to their respective Police Commands for the purpose of security arrangements before the commencement date.

The release states the required details to include, proposed assembling points and routes, duration of the protest, names and contact details of protest leaders and organizers and measures to prevent hijack by criminal elements.

Furthermore, the CP has urged both the organizers and those embarking on the protest to cooperate with the Police towards ensuring that the proposed protest is carried out peacefully without being hijacked by unscrupulous persons.
