Umo Eno Welcomes Financial Autonomy for LGAs, States Concerns Over Effective Implementation

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO, has described the recent Supreme Court ruling granting financial autonomy to local governments as a welcome development and relief to state governments.

He however expressed concerns over its effective implementation and the ability of Local governments to handle their financial responsibilities.

Governor ENO made the observations while fielding questions with newsmen at Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, upon his return to the state from an official engagement.

The Governor noted that the Supreme Court’s verdict onthe matter remains sacrosanct, being the pronouncement of the final court in the land.

He noted that the judgment will not impact the Akwa Ibom State Government in anyway, stressing that so far, under his administration and even in previous years,  local governments have been getting their due allocations, without any interference with the operations of the joint account.

Federal Government Distributes 20 Trucks of Rice to State Governors

The Federal Government has distributed 20 trucks of rice each to the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, MOHAMMED IDRIS, disclosed this after Monday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The minister said this is the first step as the government takes strides to address the issue of food shortage in the country and appealed to the governors to ensure the effective distribution of the grains to the most vulnerable in the society.

Chairman House Committee on Sports, Ekene Adams in Dead

The  member representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, Nigeria, Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams  is dead.
A former football player, former General Manager of Nigeria league sides Kada City Football Club, and Remo Stars before winning the house of Representatives election under Labour Party in 2023.
With his sporting background, despite being a first timer, he was appointed the Chairman of House of Reps Committee on Sports.
While trying to find his feet politically, he had been a member of APGA, APC before joining LP where he won the 2023 elections
In 2021, he contested under APC for local government chairman but lost in the primaries. Also lost APC primaries for House of Representatives and later got the ticket of LP.
He died in the early hours July 16th, 2024 after a protracted ailment.
This is the second death in the House of Reps within 7 days.
May his soul rest in peace.

Tinubu Vows to Tackle Food Insecurity, Cost of Living

President BOLA TINUBU has vowed that his administration would address food insecurity in the country and drive down the cost of living for the citizens.

President TINUBU said the government’s recent decision to temporarily suspend tariffs on imported grains and other essential food items were short-term measures to address the rising food prices across the country.

This is just as the former Governor of Ogun State, Chief OLUSEGUN OSOBA called for cooperation with TINUBU’s efforts to turn things around, declaring that after this current darkness, there would be a great joy in the country.

Speaking at the public presentation of Chief OSOBA’s book “My Life in the Public Eye” in Lagos, the president, represented by Vice President KASHIM SHETTIMA promised more comprehensive strategy to enhance living conditions for all Nigerians.
