Former Governor of Kogi; Yahaya Bello Honors EFCC Invitation

Former Governor of Kogi State YAHAYA BELLO has honoured the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after months of back-and-forth and an attempt by the agency to arrest him.

A statement by the Director, Yahaya Bello Media Office, OHIARE MICHAEL on Wednesday, said Bello has honoured the invitation of the EFCC after due consultations with his family, legal team and political allies.

The move comes after Justice EMEKA NWITE of the Federal High Court Abuja adjourned proceedings on the alleged money laundering case instituted by the EFCC against Bello to 25thSeptember.

It would be recalled that BELLO was sued by the EFCC on a 19-count charge of alleged money laundering to the tune of 80 Naira Billion.

Akwa Ibom House Of Assembly Approves the Appointment of External Auditors to Local Government Auditor-General’s Office

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of an external auditor to the office of the auditor-general for local government in the state.

The approval came after the committee on Public account presented a report during plenary on Tuesday.

The Chairman of the Committee and Member representing Nsit Ibom State Constituency, Hon ERIC AKPAN, while presenting the report, recommended an audit firm of Ubok Udom and Co for the appointment, describing the firm as most suitable among other firms which were recommended by the office of the Auditor-General for local government.

After due considerations and deliberations at the floor of the house, the audit firm of Ubok Udom and Co was approved for appointment as the external auditor to the office of the Auditor-General for local government.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon UDEME OTONG, therefore directed the Clark of the House to communicate the resolution of the House to appropriate quarters.

ARISE-Cares Set for Launch on September 20

The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced the official launch of the State Health Insurance Scheme, Arise-care, a transformative initiative that will fundamentally reshape healthcare access and delivery.

Commissioner for Health, Prof AUGUSTINE UMOH made the announcement during a Press Conference at the State Ministry of Health, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo.

The Commissioner, who noted that Governor UMO ENO is expected to lead other dignitaries to the official launch of the Scheme, slated for Friday, September 20, 2024, called on all Akwa Ibom People to key-in and benefit from the Health Insurance scheme.

Prof UMOH, while promising to intensify public sensitization efforts by engaging citizens across the state on how they can benefit from the scheme, stressed that it is designed with three tailored plans to cater for the diverse healthcare needs of the people.

The Health Commissioner maintained that the ARISE-Care will focus on preventive care, reducing the burden on hospitals and health centers by prioritizing wellness and early detection.

Health insurance is an insurance product which covers medical and surgical expenses of an insured individual. With the ARISE CARE being a bold and revolutionary step towards achieving Universal Health Coverage –UHC, it therefore means that people will have access to full range of quality health services they need, when and where they need them, without financial hardship.

NEITI Confirms 3.473 FAAC Allocations in Q2 of 2024

the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative has stated that the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee has disbursed 3.473Trillion Naira to the federal, state and local government in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024.

This reflects an increase of N46.77bn which is 1.42 percent compared to the first quarter of 2024.

This was disclosed by the agency’s Assistant Director, Communications and Advocacy, CHRIS OCHONU, in a statement released on Monday, noting that these figures are part of NEITI’s latest Quarterly Report on Federation Account Revenue Allocations for Q2 2024.

CHRIS OCHONU said the Federal Government received 1.102 Trillion Naira, representing 33.35 percent of the total allocation while 36 states received 1.337 Trillion Naira and the 774 local government councils shared 864.98 Billion Naira.

He added that nine oil-producing states received 169.26Billion Naira as their derivation share from mineral revenue.
