Peter Obi Charges President Tinubu to Reduce International Travels

The Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 elections, Mr. PETER OBI has advised President BOLA TINUBU to reduce his overseas trips and engage in more local tours in order to understand the deplorable state of Nigerian roads.

Mr. OBI, who stated this in a press conference monitored by inspiration FM news this morning, frowned that out of approximately 580 days in office, the president has spent 30% or 180 days in 30 publicly recorded foreign trips.

He mentioned that local visits will give the President a good opportunity to understand the economic and security wrongs across the country, and also visiting schools, hospitals, and other facilities across the country will help the President make informed decisions on how to upgrade and make them efficient.

Speaking further PETER OBI emphasized his stand on Taxation in the country, saying it is wrong for the federal government to tax over 100 million citizens, when Nigeria is more of a consumption country.

He suggests that what should be done now instead on focusing on taxing poor and suffering citizens, is to make the country productive with a seemingly stable economy and then introduce proper taxation to generate revenue.

Labour Says It’s Already Pushing for the Next Increase in Minimum Wage

The Organised Labour has revealed that it is pushing for an annual increase to the 70,000 naira minimum wage paid to workers in Nigeria.

The president of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, FESTUS OSIFO said this in a programme monitored by INSPIRATION FM News, stressing that it is important that the minimum wage paid to workers reflect a rise in inflation every year.

According to him, members of the organisation, as well as their colleagues in the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, have begun talks in that regard.

It might interest you to know that in July 2024, after months of protracted talks, the Federal Government and labour unions reached a consensus figure of 70,000 naira minimum wage which was later approved by President BOLA TINUBU.

The increase came five years after the last review which was pegged at 30,000 naira.

However, with the astronomic rise in cost of living, attributed to a more than quadruple hike in energy costs and petrol subsidy removal, labour unions have argued that 70,000 naira cannot take any worker home and thus demanded a decent living wage.
