Akwa Ibom Petroleum Monitoring Committee Begins Interface with Stakeholders

In its avowed commitment to ensure availability of petroleum products in the State, the Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee (PPMC)has been engaging with various stakeholders in the sector.

In a recent familiarization tour, the committee met with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in Eket and Virgin Forest Energy in Mbo to discuss potential collaborations.

The EKPO-led committee thanked NMDPRA for a warm reception and called for a partnership to address key challenges in the petroleum sector, including unavailability, diversion, adulteration, and under-dispensing

NMDPRA’s State Coordinator, IKECHUKWU ESEKA, welcomed the partnership and attributed product shortages to deliberate acts by Petroleum stakeholders.  He said the government initiative to establish petroleum depots in the state was laudable. He advised the committee to establish a standard laboratory to test the authenticity of petroleum derivatives.

Ekpo commended Virgin Forest Energy for building a tank farm in Mbo, which has added value to the community, and solicited partnerships to sell subsidized petroleum products to marketers.

 The Facility Manager VICTOR OMOTE appreciated the committee’s visit and highlighted challenges, including N2 billion spent on dredging due to low water capacity.

In a subsequent meeting with IPMAN, key stakeholders in the sector, EKPO sued for cooperation in curbing sector irregularities. He also reiterated the committee’s zero-tolerance policy for illegality, warning that lifting unauthorized products will not be tolerated.

In his remarks, IPMAN’s national ex-officio,Sir MICHAEL UDOFIA,praised the Governor for establishing the petroleum task force, which has significantly reduced harassment from security operatives and brought peace to the sector.

Addressing the harassment claims by marketers, ACP Kenneth Egbo, assured fair treatment and investigation of these claims.

Labour Commends Governor Umo Eno For 80,000 Minimum Wage

Nigeria Labour Congress, Akwa Ibom state chapter has commended Governor UMO ENO for his approval of 80,000 Naira as minimum wage for workers in the state.

The Chairman of NLC, Comrade SUNNY JAMES noted that the development has further demonstrated the Governor’s love for the workers in Akwa Ibom State.

Comrade JAMES who stated this in a telephone interview with Inspiration FM News also expressed hope that the committee would expedite actions to complete its deliverables so that Akwa Ibom workers can take advantage of the gesture.

The Labour leader in the state urged Akwa Ibom workers to maintain diligence in discharging duties at their respective areas of engagements.

He also assured them of the Union’s Commitment to protect the workers interest.

President Tinubu Order Cut in Government Appointees Costs

President BOLA TINUBU has restricted Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies of the Federal Government to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys.

The cost-cutting measure was announced yesterday in a statement signed by the President. All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of these changes.

Recall that in January this year, President TINUBU took significant steps to reduce government expenditure by reducing his entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials. For local trips, he reduced it to 25 officials while the Vice President’s entourage was reduced to five officials on foreign trips and 15 for local trips.

President TINUBU also ordered all ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies to have at most five security personnel attached to them, comprising of four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.

Civil Societies Applaud Governor Umo Eno for 80,000 Naira Minimum Wage

The Chairman Civil Society Organisation in Akwa Ibom state, Mr. HARRY UDOH reacted to the State government’s announcement of 80,000 Naira as new minimum wage for all state government employees.

Recall that in a release signed by the Commissioner of Information, INI EMEOBONG, yesterday, the State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO had announced 80,000 Naira as minimum wage for workers in the state.

This, according to the release, is reflective of the state government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its workforce.

However, in his reaction to the development, Mr. HARRY UDOH commended the state government for the efforts, adding that Akwa Ibom is one the few states that have gone beyond the minimum wage threshold stipulated by the federal government.

He noted that the increase would not pose negative impact on the economy if the government drives more interventions to boost food production in the state.
