Governor Umo Eno to Commission Secretatiat Road in Orue Offong Oruko

Governor UMO ENO will today, Monday, October 28, 2024 commission the 2.9 kilometre Secretariat Road, Okuko two-event Road with spur in UrueOffong/Oruko Local Government Area.

The exercise forms part of the Governor’s plans to commission a total of eight road projects, 62 compassionate homes, a model primary health center and a water reticulation project across the state in the next one month.

The UrueOffong/OrukoSecretariat Road project, executed by Bulletin Construction Company Nigeria Limited under the supervision of the State Ministry of Works and Fire Service, will serve as a vital access route connecting three villages, including Urueffong, UkukoUtuku and Ibotongin the Area, bringing a new level of connectivity and accessibility to the area.

Thrilling over the important infrastructural milestone in the area, some of the Residents said the road signifies not only improved access but also hope for economic growth.

Governor UMO ENO will also commission as well as hand over Arise Companionate Home in UrueOffong/Orukoand MboLocal Government Areas tomorrow, Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

IMF Calls for More Social Investment Programmes to Ease the Pains of Economic Reforms

The International Monetary Fund – IMF has said that the Implementation of social investments would help ease the pains of subsidy removal, and assist vulnerable Nigerians cope with reforms of the present administration.

Addressing the press, yesterday afternoon, at the ongoing Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank, in Washington DC, the Director of African Region, Mr. ABEBE SELASSIE also denied its involvement in the removal of fuel subsidy and said that the decision was purely domestic.

Mr. ABEBE admitted that fuel subsidy had brought a lot of suffering to Nigerians and advised the federal to implement social investments that would assist the vulnerable cope with the pains of the reforms.

The director said that over the years, his organization had learnt a lot of lessons from reforms carried out by member countries that it had worked with and that at the moment, it made sure that reforms advised by the IMF do not result in heightening inequalities or increase the difficulties of the vulnerable.

France has been accused of involvement in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda of minority Tutsis and moderate Hutus.

In an unprecedented hearing, the Paris Administrative Court began tackling a request from several survivor associations to examine the role played by the French state.

They are hoping to prove France’s tacit support of events through a defence agreement, illegal arms deliveries, and the abandonment of civilians.

Survivors are seeking 540 million dollars in reparations. Paris has been repeatedly accused of supporting the government in power at the time of the 100-day killing spree by Hutu extremists.

More than a million people were killed in the violence which only ended when rebels of the Tutsi-dominated Rwanda Patriotic Front – led by now President PAUL KAGAME – drove the Hutu army and millions of civilian Hutus into exile.

Akwa Ibom State Government Set to Launch Ambulance System

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has stated that the State will soon launch an independent Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System to complement the Primary Health Care services, and the recently-launched State Health Insurance Scheme.
The Governor made this known, when he took delivery of the initial six, of ten fully- equipped ambulances, at the Government House, Uyo.
Speaking with Government House correspondents while inspecting the ambulances, Gov. Eno said the gesture was a reaffirmation of his commitment to enhance healthcare services in the State, in line with the aspirations of his administration’s ARISE Agenda.
According to the Governor, the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (AKISEMSAS) will run as a stand alone system, run by qualified personnel, but complementary to the Health Insurance Scheme and other components of the State’s Health Sector, to ensure swift response to medical emergencies, as is obtainable in some countries across the world.
He directed that health workers be selected and trained on requisite skills to ensure optimum service delivery on the emergency services.
He commended the special features of the ambulances and reaffirmed9 his administration’s commitment to support good ventures that would serve the interest of Akwa Ibom people in fulfillment of his campaign promises.
“We want to create an Independent ambulance service system, a stand alone service, headed by qualified personnel. The Ambulance service is special, and they can run independently.
“If we have this ambulance system working, our health insurance working, our hospitals working and we have the medical team working, pay the medical Doctors well and make them happy, we should be able to revive our health sector as part of our ARISE Agenda,” Governor Eno stated.
