Fayemi sworn in as Ekiti gov, vows to probe Fayose

KAYODE FAYEMI has been sworn in as governor of Ekiti State and has vowed to probe the administration of his predecessor, AYO FAYOSE.

FAYEMI, the immediate past Minister of Mines and Steel Development, said his second coming was not for vengeance, but to bring the culture of prudence and financial propriety to bear in the governance of the state.

He said the past government took 170 billion Naira loans for projects, noting however that this would not stop his administration from delivering dividends of democracy to the citizens.

He said Ekiti under him would not degenerate to the level of allowing school children to pay taxes in their quests to receive formal education.

COURT GRANTS BAIL TO FORMER KATSINA GOVERNOR, IBRAHIM SHEMA

A Federal High Court sitting in Katsina has granted bail to the former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shema, who is standing trial on alleged N5.7 billion money laundering charge.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Katsina State government arraigned Shema on 26 charges bordering on alleged money laundering of N5.7 billion SURE-P state funds.

We gathered that the trial had to start afresh following the transfer of the trial judge, Justice Babagana Ashigar, who was replaced with Justice Hadiza Rabiu Shagari.

IKPEAZU: NDIGBO HAPPY WITH PETER OBI’S NOMINATION AS ATIKU’S RUNNING MATE

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state has dismissed the insinuation that the South East governors and PDP leadership in the region are not happy with PETER OBI’s nomination as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar for the 2019 general polls.

Governor Ikpeazu made this statement in the presence of Peter Obi in Aba, Abia state.

The Abia state governor stated that there was no time leaders of Ndi-Igbo and South East governors said they were not happy with the choice of OBI.

Governor Ikpeazu extolled the choice of Peter Obi, described it as apt.

PETER OBI had paid a condolence visit to Governor Ikpeazu and the people of Abia state over the pipeline explosion in Osisioma.

MISSING GEN ALKALI: ARMY PARADES SUSPECTS

The Nigerian Army has paraded 13 suspects arrested in connection with missing retired Major General Idris Alkali in Jos.

Brig.-Gen. Umar Muhammed, Garrison Commander, 3 Division, Nigeria Army, Rukuba, near Jos, told newsmen that the suspects would be handed over to the Police for full investigation.

He said they were arrested in the area where the General’s missing car was found.

Alkali, the immediate past Chief of Administration, Army Headquarters, Abuja, was declared missing on September 3.

He was said to have gone missing on his way to Bauchi on the day of his disappearance and this led to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai setting up a search operation for the missing General.
