Civil Liberties Organization Cautions Politicians on Utterances Ahead of 2023 Elections

Away from that, the Civil Liberties organization – CLO, Akwa Ibom State branch has called on all the 2023 Political Office seekers and their supporters to campaign with decorum and propagate their manifestoes to the electorates without engaging in activities that is capable of breaching the peace and security in the state.

The Organization maintained that it is disturbed by the way politicians are heating up the polity with inciting statement as regards to the 13 percent derivation fund arrears refunded to the state by federal government.

Addressing Journalists in Uyo, the State CLO Chairman, Otuekong FRANKLYN ISONG said the tension surrounding the 13 percent derivation refund is unnecessary and distracting because CLO investigation on the issue revealed that the money was captured in 2021 and 2022 appropriation laws.

Otuekong ISONG stressed that the same 13 percent derivation refund was also approved in the 2021 and 2022 revised Appropriation Laws, and also reflected in the 2023 Appropriation Bill that is under consideration by the state House of Assembly.

The State CLO Chairman further explained that they had embarked on a three-month tracking of the projects executed or facilitated by the state government from its inception in 2015 till date, and that the Governor need to be lauded for the life touching projects.

CLO however called on Akwa Ibom People to take ownership of the projects, as well as support the Government to complete other ongoing projects for the benefit of the communities where the projects are located.
