High Court In Port Harcourt Restrains Martin Amaewhule Led Legislators from Parading Themselves as Such

The High Court in Port Harcourt has granted an interim injunction restraining pro-WIKE speaker of the state House of Assembly, MARTIN AMAEWHULE, and 24 other members from parading themselves as legislators.

 

The court directive prohibits them from convening or participating in any official meetings at the Assembly premises.

 

The court’s decision stems from an exparte order filed against the pro-WIKE lawmakers by pro-SIMINIALAYI FUBARA speaker VICTOR OKO JUMBO and three others.

 

The interim injunction declares the seats of MARTIN AMAEWHULE, and 24 other Lawmakers vacant pending further legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, Armed Policemen were seen occupying the Legislative Quarters, in the early hours of today, Saturday 11th May, 2024.

President BOLA TINUBU reaffirmed Nigeria’s strategic position in Africa as a bastion of peace, saying the nation will continue to play its role as a stabilizer on the continent.

 

Receiving a letter of credence from the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, MOHAMED AHMED, President TINUBU emphasized the shared commitment of both countries to promoting global peace and stability through collaboration within international organizations, such as the United Nations.

 

He noted that since establishing diplomatic relations in 1961, Nigeria and Egypt have collaborated on key international priorities, including promoting regional peace, security, and stability.

 

Meanwhile, Ambassador AHMED conveyed President ABDEL FATTAH EL-SISI’s willingness to bolster economic partnership with Nigeria, emphasizing Egypt’s interest in increasing trade and investments between the two countries.

 

Also speaking, the High Commissioner of Pakistan, Major-General SOHAIL AHMED KHAN (retired) noted the demographic similarities between the two countries and expressed a desire to elevate the relationship to new heights.

 

In a separate meeting with Ambassador ATHANASIOS KOTSIONIS of Greece, President TINUBU reiterated his administration’s commitment to an open-door policy that encourages collaboration and progress for the benefit of all.

Reps Call For Improved Security Presence in Schools Across the Country

The House of Representatives has called for security presence in schools across the nation to address the worsening security situation in the country.

 

The decision of the House is sequel to the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved at the plenary by BILLY OSAWARU.

 

Presenting the motion, OSAWARU decried that students are no longer safe even in their schools, especially, in places like Borno, Nasarawa, Niger, Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna States.

 

He recalled that on Thursday, 7th of March 2024, about 287 schoolchildren were kidnapped from a government-owned school in Kaduna State’s Kuriga town.

 

He warned that schools might be shut down if attacks by terrorists and bandits on schools across the country continue.

Governor Umo Eno Assents to Electoral Law In Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor UMO ENO, has assented to the Independent Electoral Commission Law Cap 69 Bill recently passed by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, into law.

 

With the amendment, the Independent Electoral Commission Law will update the electoral laws in the State.

 

It will enhance efficiency in the electoral process at the grassroots level, provides legal backing and aligns the activities of AKISIEC in the conduct of local government elections.

 

Also, the law will help instill more confidence in the electoral process in the State.

 

AKISIEC is also, expected to come up with a programmes of action that will culminate in the conduct of local government elections in the state.
