May 13, 2024 Legal Practitioner; Ekemini Udim, Hits at Governor Umo Eno for Planning to Extend Tenure of Transition Committees

Legal Practitioner; Ekemini Udim, Hits at Governor Umo Eno for Planning to Extend Tenure of Transition Committees

A legal practitioner, Barrister EKEMINI UDIM has berated the plans by Governor UMO ENO to extend the tenure of Local Government Transition Chairmen in the State.

The Lawyer who insisted that there is need for election to be conducted across the local government Areas in the state, called on the State House of Assembly to make a presentation to the Governor as well as the State Electoral Commission, AKISIEC for election to be conducted in line with the constitution.

Recall that last week Thursday, legislators after deliberating the content of Governor UMO ENO’s letter for extension of the tenure of Local Government transition chairmen, which ends in June declined approval to the request.

Reacting to this, Barrister EKEMINI UDIM in an exclusive interview with Inspiration FM news stated that the proposal to extend the tenure of the Transition Chairmen is unacceptable by law.

The legal Practitioner insisted that it has become pertinent for the Government to allow machineries in place for democratically elected persons to emerge and man the local government areas.

Barrister EKEMINI UDIM lauded the decision of the House of Assembly to reject the proposal, but noted that introducing an assessment tour to rate performance of the non elected chairmen is jamboree.
