Nasarawa State Governor Confirms Access to N573b World Bank Loan to Nigerian States

Nasarawa State Governor, ABDULLAHI SULE has confirmed that his state accessed the N573 billion World Bank loan received by states across the country.

SULE indicated during a Live Television programme that the funds were meant for infrastructural projects and not to cushion the effects of hardship faced by Nigerians.

Over the past nine months, the Federal Government disbursed over N500 billion to state governors to fight poverty in their domain and this was noted in President BOLA AHMED TINUBU’s nationwide Broadcast in response to the #EndBadGovernance protest.

Many Nigerians, including human rights lawyer, FEMI FALANA, had challenged states and the FCT to explain how they spent the money they received from the World Bank.

Affirming the receipt of the funds, Governor SULE explained that states received the money in batches, with the latest received in June, 2024.

It is however a different story coming out from Oyo state, where the Governor has denied taking part in the ₦570bn hardship grant claimed to have been given to the state governments by the Federal Government.

In a newsletter personally signed by the governor, SEYI MAKINDE and shared on his X handle on Thursday, the Governor said that the state was not in the know of such a grant.

MAKINDE’s denial comes on the heels of controversies that has greeted the nationwide hunger and hardship protests
